Of the two, it is sad that Brandis' death is given far more attention than Kamen's: Kamen had a far greater body of work and never partnered up with a annoying CGI dolphin or Chuck Norris. Except for scoring Die-Hard. Kamen said he could've done it without the dolphin, but I think the clicks and whistles really add to the soundtrack and Chuck's martial arts prowess and moe haircut kept the orchestra in line nicely.

I think I might have seen that guy in a couple of other movies too...
Sad about Brandis. I always thought he was WAY less irritating than Wesley, and there were a couple of episodes with him and Roy Scheider that were bordering on touching. Why do you suppose he did it? I mean it must be kind of tough to be a 27-year-old teen idol. But I imagine there had to be more to it than the fact that Tiger Beat had stopped calling.

Balaam, I haven't heard anything new about Brandis's death. The medical examiner is holding off on releasing information from the completed autopsy, and I haven't heard anything about a suicide note.
The most outlandish theory I've heard is that Brandis was on an acne medication that had a side effect of suicidal depression. Wil Wheaton posted what might be the most reasonable: difficulty from transistioning from child star to adult star. I doubt we'll ever know for sure.

It's possible he suffered from clinical depression. His career was more alive than many: he hada role in Heart's War last year.

Speaking of his record in the IMDb, I agree that it could very well be depression brought on in part by his acting career. Just looking at it, it seems like Brandis peaked with seaQuest. No noteable television appearances since 1993. After seaQuest ended production, it seems he only appeared in TV movies and independent films (with the exception of a bit part in Hart's War).

Exactly. And for some reason maybe he was unable to get past that. Contrast him with Wil Wheaton, for example - WW's fall from fame might be said to be the greater, given his appearance in many high-profile movies, and of course Star Trek; yet he seems to have weathered it far better. Whether that's due to all the various things he does instead, that you can read about on his website, or the obviously-happy family life he has (I've seen no mention of JB being married or having a partner of any kind), or him just being generally more stable, it's impossible to say.
