Flare Rules & Policies

You're reading this page because you're either trying to register, or the rules have updated since you last agreed to them. Regardless of how you came here, you must read, understand, and accept these rules & policies before continuing.

Let's get the basics out of the way.

In case you missed the briefing, this is a message board on the internet. People tend to express their opinions here. We cannot and do not review messages before they are posted, and are not responsible for the contents of any message.

Do not post any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, excessively obscene or profane, excessively sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any internationally recognized law.

Do not post any material that intentionally violates the intellectual property rights and/or copyrights of another individual or organization. This includes, but is not limited to, discussion and links regarding downloading popular shows/movies and other forms of piracy.

Do not troll. Known trolls from other communities will be banned immediately following any questionable incident.

Do not post excessively.

Do not post for the sole purpose of advertising your website, service, or product. You should be here to participate in the discussion, not to drive traffic to your site.

Doing any of the above may result in one or more of the following actions, chosen at our sole discretion:
- Posts in violation may be edited to remove the areas in violation
- You may be told not to repeat the violation
- Your account may be banned

Violating our rules multiple times will absolutely result in a ban. There is no formal warning system, and there are no appeals.

Long-time members are given a high level of leeway in regards to this ruleset, so please don't think that you can do the same things that the people that registered in 1999 can do.

IF YOU ARE REGISTERING HERE, PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!

All registrations sit in a review area for at least 24 hours before being approved by a human.

Please register using the email address given to you by your ISP. This means that, if you are using, say, Earthlink, you must use your Earthlink email address. If you are using AOL, you must use an AOL address, if you're using AT&T Broadband / Comcast, you must use the address given by them, etc.

Using an email address at a personal or business domain name is acceptable, but has a higher chance of being declined for registration.

Using an email address from a free service will result in your registration being declined. Even Gmail.

All registrations are tracked by IP. We will compare your email address and the IP that you were on when you signed up. If things don't add up (say, an email address in Brazil but an IP out of England), your registration will be declined.

The email address you enter here will only be used to mail your password and the approve/decline notice for your registration. It is your choice as to whether or not you wish others to see your email address.

We do not send out mass emails to registered users, nor do we collect addresses to hand to third parties. We will never spam you.

The registration and approval emails will come from [email protected]. If you are using anti-spam software, you should add this address to the whitelist to ensure that the mail is received.

Note: Services like "Earthlink SpamBlocker" that require the sender to click on a link in order to properly send the mail through will not work with the automated registration emails.

Note: If you do not have an ISP-issued email address, and have no friends with personal domain names that can give an address to you for your own personal use, drop a mail to [email protected] explaining your situation, and I'll probably make an exception for you. Be sure to include the phrase "new registration" in the subject of the mail, otherwise it might get lost in the spam filters.

Finally, some words about the Flare community. We've been around for a long, long time. We've grown comfortable with each other, and tend to be a little on the elitist side when dealing with new members.

First impressions are everything. Be constructive and intelligent. Search before posting - we have over six years of discussions about everything from the length of the Defiant to the nature of God himself.

If we like you, your torment will be short. Enjoy your stay.
