The company I work for has a network of websites that we've been trying to get indexed by the Yahoo! search engine. However, we're not interested in getting our site indexed by the "Web Site Matches" section, we're more interested in getting our site indexed in the "Web Site Categories" (i.e.: Home > Science > Computer Science > Artificial Intelligence). To get into the "Web Site Categories", one has to manually register their site with Yahoo! Unfortunately, the search engine rejected our application on each attempt, and we soon discovered why.

Apparently, a search spider sent by Yahoo! had stumbled on to the site in question and sent back the home page of that site. That site is now under the "Web Site Matches" section, and not "Web Site Categories". It appears that if your site is already indexed in the "Web Site Matches" section, you are not able to register your site in "Web Site Categories". This is bad news, considering that almost no one ever goes into the "Web Site Matches" section. My boss has sent out letters to Yahoo! addressing this problem, unfortunately, there was no response.

Has anyone had similar problems with Yahoo!? Any advice or suggestions?

My understanding is that Yahoo! are idiots. But that's just what I've heard. :-)

The mail works well enough, but the searches don't get you much.
