In short, uprooted and transplanted. Hopefully this new flowerbed of learning will not hinder ICQ access w/a firewall like the last one. But expect me absent while I take a few days to take root and assess my net access opporunities...

The funny thing is, they think you hate them back, when in fact, you just couldn't be bothered to care. Now in Ireland, it's a different story. At least we had the common decency to wait until the English invaded before we started hating them. I guess the Canadians are hating you in advance..."

The new version of ICQ is much more firewall friendly, dude.

Bah. ICQ 2000a is yet another AIM clone from what I hear. Give me 99b any day!

The only real problem I have w/ ICQ2000a is that it can't monitor for new e-mail. I have to check my e-mail manually from time to time, and it sucks...

Wow. You actually have to check your e-mail manually? You poor soul. Personally, I couldn't cope with the stress, so I've hired a team of net-buddies. One checks my e-mail, another types in URL's, and another spends all day on Yahoo and AltaVista looking for porn. It saves me from doing any work at all.

The point being that I have to remember to check it every once in a while. It was a lot easier when I could just forget about it, and ICQ would let me know if anything showed up...

ICQ 2000a has a few niceities, but overall it's not much better than 99b. Still, I'd prefer to have it back after one of the dll's corrputed and forced me to use 99b again.
That's what I get for running it on this computer I guess.

We appreciate your concern.
It is noted and stupid.

99a and 99b are the superior versions at the moment... They're the least bloated of the newer versions (the ones that can handle 450+ character messages), and can NOT be autoupdated to include the advertisements in the URL function like 2000 can. The mail check function IS fixed in 2000b, though.

I do have friends that insist that the 98x versions are better... even the old 1.x versions! (Mainly due to the later version bloat...)

I like 99b more except for a few functions on 2000a. 2000a's set up is better IMO but it has a few complicated parts... if they had a 99b and a half that'd be great.

2000b has the mail checker? Hm... I wonder if it's worth risking losing my list/history to upgrade...

I think the word is "scary." Last night I was up until 3 AM talking about blowing things up. I only remember part of the conversation, but apparently a sewer pipe full of gunpowder will be picked up by military early-warning radar if lit.

Remember, folks, if you want to meet interesting people, go to a tech college.

Tsk. US students talk about bombs, guns, and "how I'll make them pay. Pay good!" whereas UK students talk about whether anyone has changed boxers this week, who's nicked the butter from the fridge, and whether it's worth spending the extra money for Red Bull and Vodka.

I'm off to Liverpool university to do, well, something. Probably. I'm moving in a couple of weeks, just after my 21st birthday. Aww.
