'Cauli' from Cauliflower, and 'colli' from Brocolli related?

While they both have origins in Latin, they don't seem to be from the same root.

They're not the same. It would seem that the "cauli-" in "cauliflower" is a stem in and of itself (it comes from Latin, from a Greek word meaning "stalk"). However, the "-coli" in "broccoli" doesn't stand alone. "Broccoli" is actually the plural of the Italian "broccolo", which comes from "brocco" (meaning "sprout"). So, the "-co-" in "broccoli" is part of the original word ("brocco"), while the "-li" is just an add-on.

Actually, "broccoli" comes from the name of the family who first developed the crop...ancestors of the late Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, the guy behind the Bond flicks.

Okay, well, my pun was unintended. I'm sure Frank's was, too. *L*

And stop looking at me like that, people! He asked a question, and I answered it! *LOL*
