Just got done watching it and there really isn't much I can say. It was a very good movie but extremely difficult to watch. I'm a pretty emotionless guy most of the time, but at the end of the movie they play Minstrel Boy while listing the soldiers who died and I lost it. I'm sitting here almost an hour after the movie and I still can't think about it or I find myself starting to cry again.

I saw the History channel show on this last night. Had the survivors, real film. Hard to imagine all those guys having to run the mile, after fighting all night.

Just saw it too. (yaaawn, oh is it october already??) I rented two movies, actually, and was going to watch it last, but my dad, who lives nearby, was alone so I thought I'd watch it with him, instead of us being separate.
He served as a seargeant with the UN peacekeeping forces, swedish dispatch, in Congo 1960-62, special forces interpreter.
I thought it could be cool for him, knowing he had more ties to Africa than just the UN. I didn't really expect it to be like a modern "Private Ryan".
We sat for hours after and talked about stuff that came up, things he had ceased thinking about thirty years ago. I got a little wiser about why for example he's always been so protective about our family, like when looking out the window for long times at night, when cars or people go by. Congo nights could get pretty lively, when local villagers wanted to steal munitions from the barracks, or kill soldiers in their sleep hoping they could drive the forces out of the area.
(Funny, this is the first time I'm really astounded my dad didn't raise me and my brothers like little soldiers.)
He liked the movie, anyhow, in the way it portayed the action and atmosphere, and the psyche of the opposition.
One thing though, he mentioned. In african urban night operations, even big cities, you don't get as much nightlight as they did in the movie (when the Delta's were pulling forward). In fact, you don't see shit.

For god sake's man, learn to masturbate or something.
-------------------- Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.
