So Sunday was United Nations Day...& I've been reading this book that you might find neat given your interest in WW2-era history. It's called Act of Creation: The Founding of the United Nations : A Story of Superpowers, Secret Agents, Wartime Allies and Enemies, and Their Quest for a Peaceful World by Stephen Schlesinger. It's...amazing. I had no idea that FDR had set up the idea so far ahead of time, that he was so into it, & even that he was very seriously considering resigning the presidency after the war to serve as the UN's first Secretary-General. It also goes into Stalin's backpedlaing on Yalta agreemts, Churchill & De Gaulle's colonial obstinancy, & the vast amount of spying that the American delegation had access to in order to make sure the San Francisco Conference was successfully pulled off.

Makes you wonder what the intrigues of the forming of the Federation would be. I know Last Unicorn Games touched on it some in their not-too-shabby Price Of Freedomsourcebook, but still...it's quite fascinating.

And Franz Joseph is a hack, stole the UN Charter word for fucking word. Simply replaced the articles on regional activities with ones for Starfleet.

Speaking hypothetically, the ambiguity of having others post for one is rather negated when one's username shows up on the "recent visitors" list on the forum summary page. One might want to select the "hide from recent visitors list" option in one's profile.

Hypothetically, of course.

Well, I for one agree with He Who Shall Be Nameless. Spying was vital in the agreements during WW2 and subsequent steps towards the Cold War. But especially BEFORE. I remember a series of documentaries on The History Channel about spies; seeing the present security and investigation agencies being formed during the 1940's, gaining experience while giving their first steps. It was quite enlightening.

And I quite like LUG's Price of Freedom take on the founding of the UFP. Very good for giving some 'national spirit', and 'History' lessons to the players during a game.

You know what they say about imitation.

(Which is not to say that I agree with what they say. Well, not necessarily. And not always. So, erh, not always, necessarily. Anyway.)

It wasn't imitation, it was chorus.
And don't try to throw me off my path, noisy silo, I'm still flabbergasted that an american took the UN in defense, contrary to genetic coding.

Well maybe not defending it outright but at least not trashing it, which in its own right is an achievement to shake the walls of Camp David.

It's only the current corrupt administration that has issues with the equally corrupt UN that causes such an observation.

Trasditionally, the US is the UN's biggest supporter....just not with Kofi and Busco pulling the strings.
