[The story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.]

"I wanted to tell both you and [your sister], we just returned from New York. [Husband]'s 25 year old son (also [same name]) was killed by a drunk driver. This was [Husband]'s first born, and he's really taking it pretty hard."

"We were going up to see the kids the following Tuesday (Sept. 7), however, on Sept. 1 he was killed and we were out of here the next day. He was one his way, with a friend ([His son] was the passenger) to go to the mall to get a hair cut. A 3x DUI driver went through the stop sign, turned the truck [Son] was in over killing him instantly and the driver's heart stopped 2x on the way to the hospital."

"They are going to have to train him to walk again they said in about 3-4 months. Can you believe they let this guy go, until they do further investigation... hello; this will make his 4x DUI! The pick-up [Son] was killed in then rolled over and hit another car a girl was driving...she saw the accident and luckily had very good reflexes and immediately ducked."

"The entire top of her car came off; if she had not thought so quickly, she would have been decapitated (she was not wearing a seat belt, which in this case, was a good thing). Anyhow, we're both kinda' running on empty right now. Please let [your sister] know and send me her address. And please give my love to all (and don't forget your sweet Mom!). Love, [Cousin]"

I really don't think I can add anything to this message without getting preachy.

We are far to leanant on crime in this country. The law is too busy setting up people who sell pot, to get the drunk drivers off the road. And if they do catch you, you will get off the first time.

Anyone in this area who has more then one conviction, gets his name in the paper. I've seen as many as ten convictions, and still get off with no time.

Call me draconian, I don't care.

They should KILL anybody who drives drunk a second time.

(the only reason I don't say the FIRST time is because I believe everybody has the potential to learn from a mistake -- I just don't believe they should be allowed to repeat the same one until they kill someone.)

First: Somehow, I agree.......

Y'know what I heard? If you hold a party with alcoholic drinks, and if someone in your party gets stoned, drives out and commits a fatality, you could also be criminally liable.......

Good.

And even if you AREN'T criminally liable, you're STILL likely to get your arse sued off. Even a win, in this country which lacks "loser pays," can put you out of business for good.

This is why ALL the parties I went to, back in the days when I still drank, were "Leave Your Keys With The Big Guy At The Door" affairs. You could only get your keys back if you convinced the big guy, who wasn't drinking, that you were sober.
