Can anyone help?

Jeff, you need DOS drivers. What brand is your CD-ROM drive? The syntax is generally:
(for AUTOEXEC.BAT)
MSCDEX /D:NameOfDriver
(for CONFIG.SYS)
DEVICE=C:\Path to driver\driver.sys /D:NameOfDriver
---------
For example, my drive is an Atapi drive, and I'm using this for my config:
(for AUTOEXEC.BAT)
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:10 /L:Z
(for CONFIG.SYS)
DEVICE=C:\ATAPI44\CDTECH.SYS /D:MSCD001 /UDMA2 /V
/D:MSCD0001 - Name of the driver.
/L:Z - Tells the computer what drive letter to assign to the CD Rom drive. In my case, it's drive Z. *LOL*
/M:10 - How many buffers for the CD-Rom drive. I don't know much about that.
And I think the UDMA2 tells the driver to use the upper DMA......but you won't have to worry about that, it's native to my ATAPI drive. *L*

It says in my driver properties that it doesn't have or need driver files for it... What does that mean then?

"Sully, for Shame! And don't be foolish! What are we trying to practice every day? If our friendship depends on things like space and time, then when we finally overcome space and time, we've destroyed our own brotherhood! But overcome space, and all we have left is Here. Overcome time, and all we have left is Now. And in the middle of Here and Now, don't you think that we might see eachother once or twice?"

Jeff: I like that comic. Floppies are archaic relics of a time when files were under 1.4MB. I haven't used floppies in years.

And actually, I found out that Leoptics Inc. no longer exists, but I have alternative ways of getting my cdrom recognized in DOS... >:-)

I doubt CDr will ever become standard. I read about a new data storage technology that should be on the shelves in two to three years. It's about the size of a credit card, with access rates of 100 Mb/s, and can be manufactured for around $50. The really interesting part: it's storage capacity is 2.4 TERABYTES! That's right, terabytes! Now you can download all of Trek onto one disk, with every episode, movie, book, game, and audio CD ever made included with room to spare! Carry the entire internet around in your wallet! Just give me one of those with a new G4 processor, and I'll be happy as a clam.

I remember getting a computer with a 40 Mb hard drive and remarking: "I'll never fill this baby up!"
The amount of "must have" data has a habit of expanding to fill the available storage space, with about 10% of the data left over. You will always require more storage space than you have available. It is an immutable law of computing.
