An earthquake fault under the Santa Cruz Mountains decided it was going to slip a bit.

The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake registered at 7.1 on the Richter scale.

The damage caused by the quake was nothing compared to the damage caused by the quakes in Taiwan and Turkey, but it was still quite considerable. Many died. Many more were left homeless.

We were lucky here in Moron Hell. Only a few buildings suffered much damage. My house was undamaged, with the exceptions of some cracks in the cement and a crack on the dining room wall, which was corrected in a recent 5.something on the Hayward Fault, about a mile from the house.

I hid under the piano bench. I wasn't scared, really, more spooked.

*ponders rambling on, but just turns and walks off*

And to think the only natural disaster I need to worry about is snow and ice storms... An earthquake would probably scare the eebie-jeebies out of me.

don't forget California's secondary attractions: wild fires, mud slides, Pacific storms, and the ever-present possibility of civilization-ending race riots! Enjoy!!

Of course, that earth quake over here, it was probably 3 on the richter scale or so. There were some houses that just about cracked in half though. pretty neat. Some people in the neighbourhood thought the nearby nuclear plant (now closed) exploded. tut tut.

Just glad to hear you're ok. And remember the motto - when the going gets tough, the smart hide under a table.
