Of course, the subject title is a rhetorical question. The question people are asking is: Is "The Blair Witch Project" a true story?

Of course, the answer is no, but what the heck. It's "The Straight Dope", so the article is a worthwhile read anyhow (and gives us an opportunity to belittle those poor souls who can't figure out it's only a movie).

I saw a woman from that town on TV. She said people came to town looking for things from the movie, and that they told them it wasn't real. Some people will believe anything.
