I found the following at a coffee FAQ website ( http://www.indwes.edu/Faculty/bcupp/things/Caffiene.htm ). quote: Where did the term "cup of joe" come from?Legend has it that the origin is a follows:The U.S. Navy used to serve alcoholic beverages on board ships. However, when Admiral Josephus "Joe" Daniels became Chief of Naval Operations, he outlawed alcohol onboard ships, except for very special occasions. Coffee then became the beverage of choice, hence the term "Cup of Joe."
Go figure. --Baloo ------------------ "We adjust to anything. Thats the good news, and thats what keeps the bad news coming." --James Lileks Come Hither and Yawn...

I can produce a "Cup of Joe" at will utilising my own bodily fluids...Not that there'd be much demand outwith the medical profession. ------------------ "Cos I...HATE you! And I...say SCREW YOU! And I...hope you're blue too"
