Well, once again, summer is upon me. Tomorrow is the last of my final exams, and I will have survived yet another year at college. For the summer, I'll be working at Kodak, making good money, and hopefully I won't miss this fast university LAN connection, because the local phone company is coming in and offering ADSL lines! WOO! But most of all, I get to go back to my roots in Batavia. Homecoming can be a sweet thing. MESA GOIN HOME!!!!

Batavia? Just where is that anyhow? I read a "future natural history" book once, and "Batavia" was Madagascar. Baloo, Batavia (NY) is the current location of what will eventually become Batavia (Madagascar) long After Man. The author, Mister Dixon, was allowing for continental drift.

BZZZT!Actually, the "Batavia" in "After Man" by Dougal Dixon was an island group in the Pacific, (inhabited by land-dwelling bat derivatives) and had no relation to Madagascar OR Batavia, NY. I own the book. As well as it's 'sequels' "The New Dinosaurs" and "Man after Man"... although there is some evidence to indicate that at least part of "Man After Man" was plagiarized from drawings by Wayne Douglas Barlowe (Author of "Barlowe's Guide to Extrateresstrials" and "Expedition," among other things. Now I'm babbling. So bleah! ------------------ "Nobody knows this, but I'm scared all the time... of what I might do, if I ever let go." -- Michael Garibaldi

*historian mode*Batavia, NY was named after Batavi, a Holland city. Batavia was settled by the Holland Land Company, its seat based in Batavia. Dutch company means Dutch name. Also, Batavian Empire, I believe was a nickname for the Dutch empire as well at one point. They named a lot of things Batavia back in the day. Batavia, NY is located right smack between Rochester and Buffalo NY. We're a small to mid-sized city. But the important thing is that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. */historian mode* ------------------ "No children have ever meddled with the Republican Party and have lived to tell about it." I have both "After Man" and "The New Dinosaurs", but have not seen the other book. Somehow I'd gotten the impression that Batavia was in the Indian Ocean. It's been a while since I've read the book (it's in a box around here, somewhere).--Baloo ------------------ "The difference between involved and committed? Look at a plate of ham and eggs.
