If you've taken the SATs, how well did you prepare for them? The first time around, I had tutors, but for the second time, I just spent the summer using an SAT prep CD-ROM game, which was actually quite fun and helpful. In fact, the CD-ROM helped me more than the tutors. My score was quite higher the 2nd time around. ------------------ When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

I took the SATs pnly once, on a lark when I was 16. My preparation involved copious amounts of Harrison Ford films, porn, & playing pool & AD&D with friends. I was the only one in the testing area who though to bring supplies with him, mainly because I'd packed the night before.I got a 1060 as I remember. I remember being annoyed that it was only average (but then, while I'm great at "English" & history, I suck at math & am only fair in science)...& then I was LIVID when I found out that my 1060 wasn't average, it was actually ABOVE average. ------------------ "Do you know how much YOU'RE worth??.....2.5 million Woolongs. I didn't do any real SAT preparation, but I took it several times, and my highest scores on each section (700 and 700, but I don't remember which was which) were from different testing times, so taking it a few times is probably a good idea.------------------ Frank's Home Page "Canadian bacon is called that because it's made from Canadians. I did NOTHING for the SATs and got a 1260 I believe. I'm going to take them again sometime. I just took the SAT for the first time last month. Hardly any real preparation. Just a book called "SAT Success" that came with a useless CD-ROM. Scored a 1480, though, so I must have done something right...------------------ "To disarm the people [is] the best and most effectual way to enslave them." - George Mason, American Statesman and Author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights (1776)

Well, I never took the SAT, but I took the ACT (there's a difference, but I forget what it is exactly). I did nothing along the lines of studying and got a 33 (out of 36) on the first try. But, that's just me... ------------------ "I'm sick of you little girl and boy groups: all you do is annoy me, so I have been sent here to destroy you..." -Eminem, "The Real Slim Shady"

And I have no less than eight rejection letters from the nation's finest colleges and universities! I had a book that I went through. But that was 7 years ago and it was a different test then. They changed it a year or two after I took it. But I got someting like 1120.------------------ It doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing as long as you look good doing it.

People, people, SAT scores aren't everything. They just test your test-taking skills. Every college has its merits, and most people find that they like their second- or third- choice colleges just as much. I for one already like USC after attending the orientation. They pulled out their marching band for us at 9:30 pm and had us doing the Trojan sign and shouting U-C-L-A SUCKS! I'm not into that school rivalry thing since I have some friends going to UCLA, but it was quite fun. That and they actually got me thinking about going to the football games for about five minutes, and I HATE football.------------------ "One more day before the storm At the barricades of freedom! I took it once. I had just come down with the flu and a goodly fever the day before, and was in that kind of altered mindstate that you getwith a high fever, you know, where you're muttering to yourself and wondering if your pencil bites? But I'd put it off too long, and HAD to take it then. So I finished the test, I think, walked out of the room, walked to my mom's car, threw up, and passed out. I got a 1320. I'll always wonder what I would have gotten if I'd been well. I know a guy a few years older than me who got a 1600. Until this year, he worked as a video store clerk. o_0

I'd ask what these scores actually mean, and could they possibly be converted into either percentages, or the good old fashioned A-F scale, but I'm afraid someone will tell me.------------------ "I can't believe we're actually gonna meet Guru Lou. The SAT is split into two parts, 'math' and 'verbal.' You can get up to 800 points in each catagory and you automatically get 200 points for showing up. You get points for answering correctly and you lose points for wrong answers. That's the jist of it. I don't want to go into specifics, but you shoudl get an idea on how it works. ------------------ It doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing as long as you look good doing it.

Okay, that's the SAT/ACT difference. On the SAT, you're penalized for wrong answers. On the ACT, you simply get points for right answers, and don't get points for wrong ones.------------------ "I'm sick of you little girl and boy groups: all you do is annoy me, so I have been sent here to destroy you..." -Eminem, "The Real Slim Shady"

Yeah. All UK exams (GCSE, A-level,) award you for right answers, and don't punich for wrong.Actually, in the case of maths, getting the correct answer is usually only about one quarter of the whole mark. The rest is for working out. ------------------ "I can't believe we're actually gonna meet Guru Lou. Everyone says he's the wisest man in the universe. Lets see I took the PSAT and got a 910. My parents bought this study book which I looked at maybe twice. I took the SAT and got an 1110 so I was pretty happy.------------------ Death before Dishonor! However Dishonor has quite a disputed defintion.
