I recently downloaded Napster in order to hunt a few songs I've always been looking for. I only had time to get a few songs before I went on vacation three weeks ago.Today, at 12:00 in sweden, when I went online to get some other songs, I found out I had been banned from Napster and, if I objected to it and couldn't prove my innocence adequately, SUED!!! Except for the fact that I don't even remotely like Dr. Dre or his angry playmate Eminem, I haven't even searched for a song remotely in his leauge, just songs from movies and singular songs that ain't worth buying a whole "Best Of" for what can equal 30$ just to get one song. So Dre, screw you and the horse you rode in on! Any thoguhutas? (sp?) ------------------ Ready for the action now, Dangerboy Ready if I'm ready for you, Dangerboy Ready if I want it now, Dangerboy? Excuse me, I wasn't being clear enough. Dr. Dre and his record company had a list of about 230000 names and passwords that had been downloading his songs and they accused me of downloading his particular songs. Napster aggreed to ban all users downloading that particular artist, so people, the Napster Search Engine has just become a minefield; download just one song that is on some list of songs being "guarded" and you're OUT!!! In my case it's even worse since I haven't even touched his stuff. ------------------ Ready for the action now, Dangerboy Ready if I'm ready for you, Dangerboy Ready if I want it now, Dangerboy? That really sucks... Have you considered using iMesh, Scour Exchange or Gnutella, BTW? Then you're 1) safe, because there have been no artists (yet) that have urged one of these three to ban users, and 2) they are not working with a central server, so you're virtually impossible to track.------------------ Advertisement in the United Federation NewsPADD, SD 53675: "Now for sale at your local dealer: Antares class vessels, as good as new! I'm glad I've been able to avoid all this Napster stuff by getting MP3's by other means, such as the good ol way of going to a website to download them. I pretty much stick to audiofind.com, and if I can't find it there, ask a friend to find it and send it to me.------------------ Thornbird: "I'm Major Robert Thornbird. And you are?" What's really weird is that I've downloaded a slew of songs form Napster, including a couple of Dr. Dre songs for a friend. And I can still download.------------------ "Fragile. Do not drop" --posted on a Boeing 757

Grains in a grasp, Fabrux. Hobbes: I usually went to AudioFind too, but they usually just had either the old drawing-cards (Imagine, Stairway To Heaven, anything from Metallica) or the most MTV-popular (Boys- 'n Girlbands, take your pick). I seek those hidden little pearls, that maybe didn't win an award, but did something for ME. I think that is what Napster's about. Not exploiting poor record-companies. Regardless, I don't think I've ever discovered a better example of a "double-edged sword". ------------------ Ready for the action now, Dangerboy Ready if I'm ready for you, Dangerboy Ready if I want it now, Dangerboy? I hope everyone out there is doing their part in the RIAA boycott this month. Also, there's Napster's buycott. Do that, too. :-)------------------ "Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra, and then, suddenly, it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come." -Matt Groening

Ah, damn, I can't boycott the RIAA....I would, but they have some of my FAVORITE techno/electronica (which, compared to some other genres, is considered a more "independent" genre) artists publishers and what not on there.AstralWerks - Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim V2 - Underworld, Moby TVT Records - Underworld Hip-O Records - Norman Cook Dreamworks Records - Propellerheads Mammoth Records - Freestylers Columbia Records - Lo Fidelity All-Stars MoonShine Music - Cirrus Virgin Records - Daft Punk Outpost Records - Crystal Method I'll support the Napster Buycott, but I think a RIAA Boycott is a tad harsh for my music needs. I still support lowing CD prices too! ------------------ "The things hollow--it goes on forever--and--oh my God!--it's full of stars!" -David Bowman's last transmission back to Earth, 2001: A Space Odyssey The 359 Webpage

Dre and Eminem are great artists......."FOR ME TO POOP ON!" That said, as a librarian, I have to be very wary of anything that could even be CONSIDERED a copyright violation.
Napster and similar 'sharing' organizations, frankly, REEK of it. All other considerations are irrelevant. ------------------ "Nobody knows this, but I'm scared all the time... of what I might do, if I ever let go." -- Michael Garibaldi

First: I don't think that's a good excuse... :-)359: Erm... You want lower CD prices? Given your reaction to the boycott, it looks like you'd probably be willing to buy them, no matter what they charged. OK, I think this is clearer:Don't boycott the smaller companies, only boycott the big ones. The big companies will have the ability to influence CD prices, not the small onces. You boycott the small ones, and they may find themselves out of buisness. ------------------ "The things hollow--it goes on forever--and--oh my God!--it's full of stars!" -David Bowman's last transmission back to Earth, 2001: A Space Odyssey The 359 Webpage

I heard a piece about the CD-prices on the radio today. They mentioned some companies in the states that have almost taken a cartel-like direction. I didn't know it was that serious.------------------ Ready for the action now, Dangerboy Ready if I'm ready for you, Dangerboy Ready if I want it now, Dangerboy? How dare you, dare you, Dangerboy?
