In response to someone asking about the "Archons" in the GD forum, I am hereby constructing this thread to talk about my fave game out there right now.

What do I use? Protoss. My tactics used to involve constructing a big fleet of carriers and mashing the opponents to smithereens. But they aren't completely effective. I always have to retreat when a Zerg Player uses Dark Swarm.

Templars. Now there's an effective killing machine. Just throw a coupla Psi Storms and watch the enemies turn into pools of blood. I usually follow up with a large fleet of 50+ Dragoons to wipe the enemy out. Corsairs to get rid of those pesky Siege Tanks and other defenses.

So what do you use?

I use the ion cannon to pick out the power plants then send the Orca bombers in to knock out the construction yard and the war factory. Then they're completely useless.

Oops... Wrong game... I should start a Tiberian Sun thread...

STARCRAFT ROCKS!

*ahem*

Now that I've got that out of my system...

I like the Protoss, too. It's amazing, the damage that four fully loaded carriers covered by an arbiter can do. Dark Archons and Templars are cool, too. I love being able to mind-control other units. Blinded carrier? No prob. Just steal a medic. I was once playing a Protoss vs. Protoss single player mission. Started with an attack force of four carriers, and ended up with ten.

Hmmm....
Send in two formations of scouts in claw formation to break up their lines, then send in a delta formation of attack bombers with an interceptor escort from the bottom of their group.
As they start to pick off the bombers, send in the waves of frigates and start refuelling the scouts with support frigates escorted by corvettes.
As their lines collapse further, bring in destroyers around their flank and mop up.

Wait a sec....Starcraft? You two-dimensional heathen. Upgrade to Homeworld and get some three-dimensional gaming, sheesh

This game doesn't die, does it? I remember the people at my lunch table in seventh grade talking about SC, now I'm almost out of high school and the game is still very much alive.

This brings back memories of ... Age of Empires. That was my game way back when (two years ago). I was a maverick on the AOE Net Campaign circuit. Blib, NoFX, Washizu, Zeus, AFK_Horseking, Big Red ... how I will never forget them.

Oh, I was always Assyrian. Sometimes Babylonean or Hittitie. I'd build 20 stone throwers when I bronzed, along with 30-40 CA's and attack who ever was closest to me. I also pioneered a suicide rush; taking the three villagers you have at the begining of game and harrassing the nearest player to you by beating their TC slowly to flames.

Omega: Try TWELVE fully loaded and upgraded carriers covered by two arbiters. Do you play on Battle.Net?

Of course, there ARE strategies to counter even that kind of attack.

That attack force was ensnared, plagued, Scourged, and shot at by Hydralisks under Dark Swarm and with Devourers as well.

Damn fiend ALWAYS resorts to Dark Swarm. That's a very cheesy attack.

I still say Tiberian Sun kicks ass. And I get pissy when the enemy is GDI and they use the ion canon against me. Only I may use the ion cannon uplink, damnit!

Playing NOD has it's advantages. Stealth generators, advanced power plants, obelisks of light, chemical missles... Say, I should go play a NOD skirmish tomorrow... I only use GDI for the ion cannon... *L*

The reason I don't play TS even though I have it is cause the units are too damn small.

My race, Terrans: Block the enterance to my base with barracks with about 5 siege tanks lined up behind them. This stops most ground assaults the computer throws at me. Meanwhile build missle turrets around my base, a couple of Valkyries for air defense. Then once my fleet of 12 Battlecruisers are ready I go after my enemy.

Wonders who would be interested in a multiplayer game over B.Net. Not my personal favorite network, but more people would have it than Kali.

Hobbes: I can dispatch your fleet of Battlecruisers faster than you can say "Kapuskasing".

All I need to do is to "Stasis Field" half of your fleet, wipe out the other half, then get reinforcements, and wipe out your remaining half.

Valkyries are pithy little weapons. I can get rid of them without any problem.

Play me on Battle.net. I go under the usual handle.

Omega: My record is 23-27 with 6 disconnects.

I'm always going to be a terran player, just a dozen or so battle cruisers with 2 science vessels and a transport packed with medics and the enemy usually goes down.

I would suggest making a set time so that anyone with the game would know about it. Like tonight at 6PM EST, or whatever works for all those interested in a Flare SC game.

Last year, Liam and I tossed around the idea of a Behaviour Gamers matchmaker service, but I of course sat on it and did nothing.

With the recent Alliance revival, however, I wonder if I should try again?

Thats actually a pretty cool idea. But have fun finding someone with your exact game *shudder*
Hell, even if you get two Starcraft players. The fights for which version to use can be horrendous.

I was actually thinking more of X-Wing: Alliance. Although I wonder how many people have Klingon Academy? Or Birth of the Federation? Or a life? (ooh, that was bitchy of me, wasn't it? )

One other thing:

In order to get updated patches for Starcraft Brood War, you have to sign in on Battle.net.

So don't worry if you claim that you don't have 1.07. The computer will automatically download the patch when you sign up.

Or you could go to Blizzard's website and download it there.
