So, I find out today that I am in fact traveling to Seattle. Monday, shortly after the funeral. I won't be gone for very long. Might even come back the same day. But for someone whose personal travel experience is as limited as mine, every journey is a grand one.

Right now, I'm faced with the most important of all roadtrip questions. What music do I bring with me? My, uh, unusual tastes deny the radio as an option. Unfortunately for me, there won't be enough time for me to check this thread before I leave, but hopefully it will stand as a beacon in the night for fellow travelers.

And so: What is the greatest traveling song/album/saga/cycle? Don't say Beowulf. Well, unless you mean it.

My nominations: "Idaho" by John Linnell. "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. "Escape is at Hand for the Traveling Band" by The Tragically Hip. (Which may or may not be the actual title, but I am too tired to fact-check.)

Of course, I am tempted to nominate the album that lent its title to this thread, by the Magnetic Fields. But I haven't actually heard all of it.

I never take whole albums. I always make perfectly mastered mixes specially designed for the trip at hand.

Actually, I always took a Gameboy. But due to the fact that I can only travel for so long on a train without falling asleep, I only got up to Sabrina. Damn it.

WOW! I haven't heard that in 25 years or so. I knew that he had become popular among some of the younger set, but considering what little I know of Sol's tastes, that one surprised me.

I could (and have in the past) take every TMBG album that exists with me in the car. Not including Long Tall Weekend, that is.

As for the Man in Black himself, who doesn't love Johnny Cash?
