While they both have origins in Latin, they don't seem to be from the same root.------------------ Frank's Home Page "Gardening for Dummies is too intense." - Rick

They're not the same. It would seem that the "cauli-" in "cauliflower" is a stem in and of itself (it comes from Latin, from a Greek word meaning "stalk"). However, the "-coli" in "broccoli" doesn't stand alone. "Broccoli" is actually the plural of the Italian "broccolo", which comes from "brocco" (meaning "sprout"). So, the "-co-" in "broccoli" is part of the original word ("brocco"), while the "-li" is just an add-on.------------------ "You're basically killing each other to see who's got the better imaginary friend." -Yasir Arafat on religious wars

Actually, "broccoli" comes from the name of the family who first developed the crop...ancestors of the late Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, the guy behind the Bond flicks.------------------ "Omigod. Singing meat. This is altogether too much."

Okay, well, my pun was unintended. I'm sure Frank's was, too. *L*And stop looking at me like that, people! He asked a question, and I answered it! *LOL* ------------------ "Yeah...apparently Sizer is very hard to say, so they replace it with 'Is Mr. Caeser home?'
