**This is "creativity" stuff, but it's not Trek-related, so I put it here. If it should STILL be in 'Creativity,' fine. Put it there.**

So I was bored, and I said to myself, 'let us post some original, self-created material here.' So I shall, in the hope that others will. It will be a nice break from the flameboard.

(excuse the geographical inaccuracies I don't think there is such a place as Mulholland bay. It doesn't matter, anyway.)

ONE LITTLE SHIP

The Ophelia sailed from New Haven,
With silver and salt in her hold,
The Captain was a young man, but seasoned,
And the crew were all valiant and bold.

They set out to carry their cargo
Through the straits to the south of Cape Horn,
They took on provisions aplenty,
But they were not prepared for the storm.

A hurricane hit off Barbados,
The tiny ship, tattered and tossed,
And before the tempest subsided,
The crew of Ophelia was lost.

Ophelia, she drifted for hours,
But nary a man could she see
She followed her course out of honor
And love for her lost family.

From Atlantic to Pacific Ocean,
Up the west coast to Mulholland Bay,
The Ophelia sailed into the harbor
After seven long months and a day.

Oh, the men of Mullholland, they feared her,
They could not understand what she'd done,
And they chased her back out to the ocean,
With the Bible, the torch and the gun.

There's a lonely ship out on the ocean,
And she does not know which way to steer,
She will wander the seas 'till forever,
When she cries -- no one will hear...

*ahem*...

Man writes a poem--
Uncaring geography.
Silliness abounds.

"Omigod. Singing meat. This is altogether too much."

That needs music, first o two.

------------------
All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.
Bob Dylan

You know, I haven't written any poetry in quite sometime. Bravo to First for being brave enough to share.

I have a haiku
It is meant to waste your time
You have just heard it

What is a haiku?
I can't tell one from bad verse.
How do you make them?

The only problem
with Haiku is that you just
get started and then...

------------------
"Still one thing more fellow-citizens--A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government..."
-Thomas Jefferson

Along with following the five-seven-five syllable structure, a proper haiku needs to have each line be a complete thought or phrase. You can't just break up a normal sentence into the right form and call it a haiku.

Well, isn't that great? A whole thread full of haikus. What's the point, again?

Philistines.

Kosh: actually, when I wrote that poem, I had a tune in mind: Loreena McKennit singing "Kellswater."

Ode to Jack:

Jack be nimble...
Jack be quick...
Jack jumped over the candlestick
and burnt his butt.

I looked at my son, and said, "My god, he's hung like a bear."
"That's the umbillical cord, Mr. Williams."

I thought it was:
Jack be nimble,
Jack be quick,
Jack jump over the candle stick

Jack not so nimble,
Jack not so quick,
Jack's in the hospital with a burnt d*ck.
