Jazz artists similar in style to Kevin Mahogany and/or Kurt Elling at their most mellow. That ambience mixed in with a good, hearty soup. Er, voice. Not soup. Not at all. Unless it's Cat soup. You are looking for cool jazz. I can dig that cat. What sort of occasion? And all strictly vocal?------------------ "One reason I like to highlight reading is, reading is the beginnings of the ability to be a good student. There is a sub genre of Jazz called Cool or West Coast Jazz. Primary among the artists here is Miles Davis and the work he did in the mid 50's and early 60's.There is a two disc set call "The Comple Birth of the Cool" with just a ton of great music. However, I think that even better discs are "Milestones," "'58 Sessions," "Kind of Blue," and "Quiet Nights." You can also find several 'Miles Davis Plays Standards' discs that are also tres cool. Paul Desmond made some very good discs that are West Coast as well. Including "Desmond Blue" and "Take Ten." If you like Desmond you will want to check out his stuff with Dave Brubeck for sure. Bill Evans' "Live At The Village Vanguard" is awesome as is Ahmad Jamal's "Ahmad Jamal at the Pershing; But Not For Me," and "Ahmad's Blues." ------------------ "One reason I like to highlight reading is, reading is the beginnings of the ability to be a good student. Of course. If I may contribute, I'd like to recommend swedish Jan Johansson, one of the greatest... A groundbreaking and trendsetting jazz-pianist during the whole sixties (died in a carcrash of course)... :( One of his most famous songs, "Emigrantvisa", still gives me goosebumps. That and "Visa Frn Utanmyra". This is required listening for jazzlovers, one of the cornerstones of swedish music culture. ------------------ Here lies a toppled god, His fall was not a small one. Bubba Fett. Only ever played to a small select group in a roadside diner somewhere near Mobile in 1947. Never heard from again, but legions of nerdy-like fans dream of him returning with a much larger, er, part. ------------------ "Sack me!? I MADE the BBC!!"
