Anybody who has done this before can answer this question.

My boss is leaving for a business trip later this month. However, he needs access to his PC so he can access some files on there. Network traffic at our office is very high and we usually drop files into his computer for his analysis.

We've secured the rental of a laptop computer that he will take with him on his business trip. What I need to do is to configure the computer and laptop so that the the following occurs:

1) He dials into his computer
2) He retrieves his files from the HD of his computer
3) He does his analysis on a separate text file.
4) He drops the text file back into his computer, where we will deal with it appropriately.

Some points to be made:

1) My Boss's computer runs on Windows 2000 Professional.
2) We do have a server here running on Win2000 Server edition. However, the server is isolated and has no external connections, no modem, etc. and therefore, cannot be dialed in.
3) The laptop computer runs on Win98.
4) My boss's computer literacy is less than average. It would be appreciated if we could keep this from being a long and confusing process. Already people have suggested using E-mail, ICQ, and FTP, but I'm afraid that using those will make what should be an easy process very complicated.
5) Long distance charges are not a problem.

Suggestions? Thanks all.

Well, we use PCAnywhere for dialin. It comes (now) in Host and Remote Control versions, and enables you to dial in and control a PC within the company - ie log in, check mail, access directories on the servers. . .

But now Ive brought Star Trek into it again, havent I. Sorry."

Thanks Vogon. I'm using a trial version right now (30 days). It'll do the trick while he's out of town.
