This experiment, if successful, will not create a dinosaur. The animal will be something else-a mutant, half chicken/half dinosaur. The animal may not survive either as a result of the genetic engineering or the environment. Dinosaurs, and any animal that carried dinosaur blood, lived in a far different environment-flora, fauna, and atmosphere-than humans do.JP 3 is my favorite, followed by JP 1 and 2.

I don't agree that an artificially created dinosaur wouldn't really be a dinosaur. The nuclei of present-day animals contain redundant DNA, as well as the DNA used to create the proteins, enzymes etc required to make the living creature. This redundant DNA can be traced back. However, I'm not sure if they could piece together the T-Rex genes. The birds existing today probably all evolved from a particular branch of the dinosaurs in the Cretaceous. The DNA of these birds could possibly be traced back along this branch, or to a common precursor of T-Rex, but not into other branches as far as I can see.

Birds are believed to have descended from therapods. Raptors are therapods.
