Besides, by the time all that stuff was spread around, the Academy had already voted on the winners. Sorry.

I do remember that being the primary reason cited that Denzel didn't win for "The Hurricane" (which, IMHO, was a pretty bad flick).

I wonder. . . people went off Crowe quickly, partly because of his BAFTAs bigheadedness, and partly for beating someone up. But ir eminds me of the way Gerard Depardieu was nobbled for Best Actor for Cyrano de Bergerac. Back then a Best Actor not even speaking English was unthinkable, so a press campaign started up which mis-translated an interview he did in which he talked about his wild youth. "I once saw someone raped" became "I once raped someone" and boom, no Oscar.

I didn't like A Beautiful Mind very much at all. It wasn't a bad film, it just wasn't engaging. And unsetlling.

: I am your student who can yell at sweaty men. I am no stranger to sweaty men, as I am TV's whore, Jennifer Connelly. You may remember me from such films as Naked Whore I, II & XVII, and that movie where I got dildo fucked. I am class now, though. Oscar for me.

(General Audience): This movie is a Romance! Between a whore and a very smart man who seems to have discovered MATH! He is very buff as well. Double Whammy, with no remainder! That was a math joke!

(Star Trek Fan): This John Nash could be the namesake of the USS Nash, NCC-2010-B, Sydney-Class Transport Variant! He must do something extraordinary, in addition to discovering MATH!

(General Audience): This movie is now a drama, and we have spent 2 hours watching things that are irrelevant. Like a dream sequence. And Jennifer Connelly hasn't been naked yet! No nudity, OR no emotional connection with the characters! This is real though. So it makes == excellence. Because the Motion Picture industry is not founded on its fiction, but it's pseudo-reality movies, as we all know. Give Connelly an Oscar if she removes her panties!

(Star Trek fan): He was crazy? That's it? That's not enough to name a ship after? I'm crazy, and I'm a loser. He at least had a fun disease, the one where you're never lonely. Oh how I wish I had some imaginary friends. Right Clement?

Interesting that this is the first year we have an animation section, and all three nominees were CGi rather than tradition animation. And did anyone think that Dexter, er, Jimmy Neutron was just put in there to pad out the numbers?

And just as (non-)interestingly, next years could be all traditional animation, with Hey Arnold, the Powerpuff Girls, and another one that slips my mind that are all likely to fail dismally at the box office.

If not, Ice Age might get nominated even though I don't think it will fail dismally at the box-office. If they can nominate Jimmy Neutron, anything is possible.

I didn't NOT like Monsters, Inc., I just thought "For The Birds" was a lot better. I know it's hard to confue the two given one is a feature length film and the other is five minutes long, but many other people I've spoken to feel the same way. MI was good, but it wasn't as good as Toy Story 1 or 2.
