See what our litigous society has created?
Oh, wait... I see now that this is in Canada.
Well, it's still bizarre. [ March 28, 2002, 15:39: Message edited by: First of Two ]

Any settlement he wins should be given to his victim(s).

Difference is, in Canada he will lose, in US he will win.

He'll lose? You sure?
After all, the judge ruled it was worthy of looking into...
plus, you may have missed this part:
quote: In recent years, prisoners have won several victories in the Federal Court, including compensation for falling from a bunk, the right to be a vegetarian and an award for being forced to share a cell with a smoker.

Too bad. I was nearly run over by a van while walking across an intersection (I had the right of way). I would have sued their ass literally if I got hit (after I recover, of course).
Seriously.
There should be a countermeasure against prison-based suits. Bleah.

My question is, what does he think he is going to do with 3.1 Mil? He's in jail for murder. I doubt he'll be getting out any time soon.
I guess if I were in prison, I think I'd have more pressing conerns like not getting a disease from the toilet seat and not getting sodomised in the shower.
When did someone decide that prisons had to be super comfortable, super fair institutions? Now, I don't think that prisoners should be treated inhumanly, by any means... but "noise during the night"? Give me a break. I should sue the idiot across the street who starts his snow blower every morning at 5:30...

Or 3.1 million dollars for cigarettes. Or maybe he's going to use it to pay other inmates not to sodomize him.

It's funny, I'd seen this thread but hadn't bothered to look at it yet; when I did, and read the article, it was only then that I realised the thread title didn't say "Inmate sues for lost sheep." 8)

Well, I'd venture a guess to the whereabouts of those sheep. But it's so like 1999.

What would he do with 3.1 mil? Do you realize how many cartons of cigarettes that would buy?

I did exactly the same thing. I was about to forward it to a Welsh friend of mine when I actually read it properly...
