quote: Um, just a thought, I don't think samui can be used to describe kaze, since samui is only used to describe the weather ("kyo wa samui desu", "it's cold today"). Although the wind is a weather phenomenon, it's not weather in itself. So your nick really should be "Tsumetaikaze".
Ahhh..... Honto desu ka? Shiranakkata! Ore wa chotto baka ne!
Yes...yes... hehe "Tsumetaikaze wa hooga ii desu demo ... In your little lesson there did it ever pass you mind that it done this way on purpose? Hmm...
Thanks for the trying to give the lesson ... & Nooo... I really really "don't" think I should be changing my name.
Also ... whats this trip about "locking" thread you lot have in here. heheh Geeze...!
Posted by Dukhat (Member # 341) on :
Threads are locked when they serve no purpose. Like this one. Instead of continuing with the other thread in which you quoted another member, you proceeded to make a new thread when it was unnecessary. If no one had seen the other thread, they would have no idea what you are talking about here.
Here's a friendly piece of advice from someone who's NOT an admin here. Stop trying the patience of the ones who are.

What the fuck is he/she/it talking about?

He thinks this is a chatgroup, apparently.

You guys are too hard on newbies. Everyone was once a newbie and had very little information on the rules.
Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :
Of COURSE we're hard on NEWBIES! We want them to STOP BEING NEWBIES! Being hard on them is a good way to get them out of Newbieitis!
Silly Matrix. Silly.
Hell, we're still hard on colin/targetemployee when he pulls this crap, and he's one of the oldest members here!

I still think that if we'd been more on top of dispensing fatal-beatings when the problems started, some of these people would have turned out very different.
Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :
Well, it's also a way to keep membership down.

Dukhat, The reason I open this thread and also put the comment about "Locking" threads was because the other "was" locked when I came in here last time.
Listen, I maybe be a noob to your thing you have going here. That doesn't mean I'm a poxy noob to forums. Also that doesn't mean I expect to drop to my knees to get kicked every time one of you feel I do something that cuts against the grain.
Hey, I came here to engage with what I thought were cool people in a cool forum. Not to logon to see someone taking the piss to buff his or her egos up. So back off a bit ... lighten up.
And just so you know TSN I'm a "He". So what the "fuck" are you talking about bub?
Hmm.? Now that didn't sound too nice now did it? Look, I'm not in here to have a bad time. The opposite is what I was looking for. If you guys that have had a crap time with ass-holes passing through taking the piss, think that "this" is the way to treat "all" new people I'm afraid you are wrong. You need to drop the "guilty till proven innocent" attitudes. It just makes this place feel "real" hostile.
In the end all you are doing is getting my back up even more... which in turn makes me feel like I want to kick back. I know when I'm out numbered, but is that what its about here? Walking through a "kicking" tunnel? If you make it ... "yeah! You can stay" if not piss off? With this style in the end no one wins because the n00b to your forum get pissed off and walks.
Is that what you lot are about? I hope not.
Samuikaze

Yes, because that last post is going to make us all want to give you big bear hugs and slobbering kisses.
Not.

I personally believe that all newbies should be given a chance. The only time I will bash newbies whn they start posting: WOH ARE UR FAVROIGHT CHRACTAR. I TINK CPTIAN IKRK IS KOOL HTQT EH SOUHLD BE BOUGHRT BCKA ALIFE LIKE mr. SHITNER ROTE ABOUT.
You never seen the Matrix pissed off.
Edit: You seem to be fairly intelligent. So far you really haven't earned any bashing via the way of the DARKSTAR.

Is that "you have never seen the Matrix pissed off" you "you never see(-n) the Matrix pissed off"?
Yes, well, Darkstar was a special case. He had more then one chance, and we were very patient with him ... up to a point. Now he's gone, and we're sad. Oh well.

Regulars on this forum win. There is a strong desire to NOT be the next TrekBBS. One of the most successful ways of doing that, is to be hard on newbies. Yes, it drives a lot of them that off, but instead of mass quantities of conversations, we have quality of conversation. Except in the Flameboard. That's just a spitting contest.
It doesn't matter if you've been surfing the net and UBB forums for twenty years. If you're a newbie to Flare, you'll be treated like a newbie. Already, you've got points in your favor because you can spell and use grammar. Congrats!
Flare is like the US Navy SEALs of the science-fiction forums. Anyone can apply, only a special few can get in. It's not like we take a vote, either. Its more like natural selection. And its NOT like older, veteran members don't get lots of ribbing and teasing either. You're not being singled out for "bashing" because you're a newbie. Hell, Omega gets bashed all the time ... look at my .sig ...
Read Captain Mike's post. He registered September 5th, and I think we'd all accepted him by October 5th. He's a ... well, crazy and strange guy. Chill out, stop thinking your previous internet surfs count to anything here (everyone starts with a clean slat), and start posting to relevent discussions.
Seen Episode II? Go to the Star Wars forum. We've got a few threads going in there -- the colors of the lightsaber, discrepencies in the age of the Republic, what will we see in Episode III?
Go to the Enterprise forum. Contribute. Go to the Star Trek forums. Contribute.
Contribute. Contribute. Right now, it only seems like you're bitching. Bitching. Bitching. Bitching. Ew.

I think it could be both.
Darkstar was a very special case, as you gusy insulted him and then he said he never will come back. Then he came back, then said he's leaving for good, then comes back and calls Flare something stupid and leaves. I think he comes back again, dunno.
I used to support him, but then after a few things like that, I started to ignore him.

Uh, someone care to tell me if the other thread really was locked?
Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :
What I find really interesting about Flare is how I start from the top and read down, getting to the Lounge here only towards the end. Anyway, as a result, I usually see UM and others using the latest crazy catchphrases before I know the context. Then I discover the context. And I'm like some crazy kind of net archeologist. Crazy.
Anyway, I don't think starting a thread to comment on another thread is a Bad Thing, assuming there's no dark and mystical "Thou shalt not comment" command issued, which happens from time to time, but rarely.
And can't we all just get along? Love each other? Party hard?
Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :
Well yes, Choo-chooo!!
No, seriously, the "kicking tunnel" is not at all the way it's supposed to be, that sort of phenomenon usually comes from kneejerk-reactions and the desire to do what the group does in order to fit in, I think most of us are above that, wink wink.
Concurring with my eloquent colleague JeffSnot, contribute & participate.
Usually, salty comments from the frequent visitors here can be answered with an equal joke/poke, not necessarily resulting in saucy exchanges of witty (or not so witty) insults, by persons whom Derek Jacobi inspires.
That (a furball) can also result in threadlock, because we can't stand seeing our children hurt one another. Think of the children. (also because bickering is pointless) (if it's not funny bickering) (then it is still pointless, but fun) (yes I know that, Clive) (sorry)
For instance, I say to you "Well, I think *someone* has been sitting to long in front of the TV", and you say "Oh, just long enough to watch the televised spanking of yo momma", or somesuch.
No, wait, that was smartass.
Forget it, opposite example. Assume that I say to thee respectfully "You are like feces", or "U=F3c35", as the trend seems to turn. See this doesn't deserve a response, but if you feel gain, something in order would be like "well, as Alpha Leader Turd I am very grateful to have left your worthless intestines and try my chances in the great ocean instead".
Happy foruming!

An addition to the last retort. "I, as Turd Steward, will lead my people to build civilizations, beyond known frontiers! I will be a GOD! You will sit in front of the TV, eating Cheesy-Poofs! Which is the greater, hm?!!!"

And you think you lost it?
Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :
Simon: I was just having that same problem...
And I still don't know what the "fuck" is going on.
But at least this thread was worthwhile in that I got to see the genius phrase "mr. SHITNER"... :-)
Posted by Matrix (Member # 376) on :
You know I kina lost what we were talking about after UM's post. I thought we were talking aout newbies, so what are we talking about now?
Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :
We were talking aboat newbies. And how to survive the initiation rites; The Crossing of the Desert, The Unblinking Eye, Wreck of the Hesperus and The Paddling of the Swollen Ass (with paddles).
Posted by Grokca (Member # 722) on :
You know Crossing of the Desert seemed a lot like The Unblinking Eye.
Posted by Matrix (Member # 376) on :
Of course we'll top it off with watching the Simpson's episode where Stewart plays the head chief in some clan right?
