Ok, I am making a website about starships. Is there any suggestions or stuff I should include?

I'd have to say, mmm, starship information and graphics....

That really depends on what kind, canon or not, starships you are using, also, what universe you're planning on using...

The format and layout have to be user friendly and interesting, having a way to keep your target audience coming back... A small lame assed site wouldn't qualify....

A better question to ask maybe, what do you like about other sites. After you have a reasonable list look over each and see what you would do different, ensuring you are not mimicing them... Being all original is important...

From there you can build out in any direction that shows the most promise... By user fedback or carefully watching your log files to see where the people are going, and coming from....

And, yes there is always an and....

Put info there, the page you have now seems kind of sad.... Your sig is right....

Star Trek
Non Canon. I might add a few canon too.
But where should I get the graphics?
I would like to modify some, and what progam should I uses & where can I get it.
I could write the info.
I anit really sure about the layout.
I don't know what to include.
My main inspiration was: I was looking at the ships a SSD and thought, 'Hey yo. You could do something with these ships'So basically adding detail and stuff like that.
Any suggestions?

You want to turn a super Star Destroyer into a Star Trek craft?

You are dangerous.

Include hardcore naked Pokemon orgy pictures! Woo!

Remember to 'think before you post', Liam. [Confused]

Posted by The BWC (Member # 818) on :

Uh, not all of them. Some I think that are plausible.
Oh yeah, here is a concept for the logo. Like it?

Liam, are you taking drugs?
Snay, that means don't post: HeY1 AuStIn PoWeRs Is Al GoRe In DiSgUiSe!1!1~1

BWC: Austin may take note of that....

Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro are among the favorites for the people I know here.... Personal preferance is all really....

Layout is a biggy, better do your research....

Sorry, but the logo needs to be spiced up...

You've got your goal, a non-canon database is feasable, research the members sites and see if you can get an idea of the layout you want, then create it.... But remember, don't steal anything, ask before using, and, be sure to credit the creater/author.....

Don't use an LCARS layout. Please.

That logo is fantastic. Because it's neither.

Are you going to change the logo every time you change your name?

Oh, the hilarity of the "adult section" at the Otakon 2000 art show. I remember one drawing in particular where Misty was on all fours facing Ash, who held what appeared to be a 4-foot length of high-volume fire hose in his hands.

Aint there someplace where you can download Corel? I mean, Paintshop is crap.

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

I don't know who the hell kicked you in the back of the head here, but Corel Draw has nothing over Paintshop Pro.

Posted by The BWC (Member # 818) on :

I'll geuss I'll have to do it with Irfanview.
I have decided on a layout, but am not sure which font to use.
What Era should I do first? (TNG, Movie, TOS, Future, ect)

Posted by Wraith (Member # 779) on :

Movie!! no particular reason, i just like movie era ships. [Big Grin]

Posted by The BWC (Member # 818) on :

Agreed Wraith

Here is the navigation bar. I am still unsure of how to sorth the information below.

Now I need to decide which ships to include and which to make myself... that I can do.

Ask CaptainMike.... He may be able to help you....

Corel Draw didn't catch anyone's interest, I like the 2 I mentioned.....

I do have to agree with The359....

Photoshop was selling cheap, for the older version... Been awhile since I have checked though.... Then add a few plugins and you are ready to go....
After a few seconds of fidling.... is a different logo....

Nah. Reminds me too much of a sock. That thing around the top.

You know that fuzz stuff that comes around your pictures if you save them in JPG? Do you know of anything that cleans that up?

Posted by Magna Ultrus (Member # 239) on :

Jim's store doesn't stock Photoshop? Or Anti-Fuzzerizer?

"You know that fuzz stuff that comes around your pictures if you save them in JPG? Do you know of anything that cleans that up?"

Yes. Not using JPEGs.

Seriously, JPEGS use what is technically called "lossy" compression, where they shrink the image by "losing" bits of detail. Hence "lossy". They took a real word and made it silly!

In Paint Shop Pro (which is superior to Corel Draw, although possibly not QUITE as good as Photoshop, although if you're not doing professional stuff I doubt you'll notice the difference) and most graphics programs you can alter the compression ratio, but you'll still get a little bit of fuzz. You have two options:

1/ Use GIFs. If it's a logo or any form of graphic that is 256 colours or less, use a GIF. It's better, and it doesn't fuzz.

2/ Use PNGs. These are new (ish), and therefore aren't supported by really old browsers and Geordies. But they can be 16 million colours and don't fringe. The files will be bigger than JPEGS, but look loads better.

"Oh, the hilarity of the "adult section" at the Otakon 2000 art show. I remember one drawing in particular where Misty was on all fours facing Ash, who held what appeared to be a 4-foot length of high-volume fire hose in his hands."

Ha! Although not quite as disturbing as the number of Powerpuff lesbian hentai pics I've seen, which have the double disturbing thing of:

1/ They are 5, and

2/ They are sisters.

Paedophilia AND incest! God bless the internet.

Well, I could just kitbash most of my ships, but the problem is they are odd shapes and I can't make it look right. The Baker class for instance.

Posted by Magna Ultrus (Member # 239) on :

You are certainly catching on. The thing the world needs the most is another Geocities Kitbash Star Trek ships sites! You'll be inundated with visitors! How unique!

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

Make sure they're 2D as well. With blazing 255-green background colour. I "love" that shit!

Isn't this in the wrong forum?

Well, Designs & Creativity usually implies some sense of design and creativity...

My, I am catty. Anyway, we've never demanded that threads about creating websites go there. Were we, heaven help us, to start discussing the specific matters of "content," that would belong best there.

Great, now Geoshitties is not letting me in...

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?! Yahoo just perma-locked out my account!!! I need a new host, something with not a lot of HTML knowledge and a interface akin to Geocities... damn.

Posted by Magna Ultrus (Member # 239) on :

I didn't know that Geocities had instituted a "suck" filter! That crazy AOLTimeWarnerYahooGeocitiesStarbucksCorp!

Posted by The BWC (Member # 818) on :

Well, somehow it let me in. But now pagebuilder link don't want to load. Damn Java.

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

Please don't retitle your threads. It's really annoying. Even more so then you changing your name every five seconds.

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

And there is nothing wrong in a good Java! Except for the poison caffeine. And the dehydrating effect.

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

And the cost. Boy, BiteBucks barters.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

That's one of the reasons why I tend to stay away from coffee. I usually drink tea instead. Iced Tea, that is.

Posted by Nim Pim (Member # 205) on :

No, you drink laced tea. I lace it with mustard speed when you go to the bathroom, partly to wait for the tea to cool down, partly to recite the script from "Gregorian FapFest" which you took from Snay as payment.
