I have to say, I now understand the class designations of the worlds nerd society. Meyself and those here, we are the elite. the geek bourgeois if you would. Because there is untold patheticness out there. And I've seen it. Trust me, I was given a detailed description of why i should join a chapter of Star Fleet, which was an Avenger-class vessel refit with quantum torpedoes, phaser strips, bioneural gelpacks and a transwarp drive. *shudders* i met about twelve different version s of the Simpson's Comic Book Guy, all with different large waistlines, ponytail length and hair greasiness.
All in all good day, didnt get Billy Dee to sign a Colt 45 like i wanted to, but met some really cool comic artists. Saw Darth Vader (and had him abuse me of a few photos)
massive complements on my ENT uniform, still cant find a phaser to go with it. Got the hat though. All in all, spent like $150 on BS like old Gold Key Trek comics (prices are way down) the Gen13 movie (on Bootleg�� Format) and a bunch of pins/patches. and some good japanese porno, which ill be scanning on posting here. oh wait, no, im not MIB. anywho.
fun. scored 100 million points when i paid Darth Vader to choke the life out of me while people took pictures. Its good to get back to my Geek roots.

Interesting.
Well, not really, but I needed an opening line. Geek class theory and online geek media convergence is currently a semi-serious idea bouncing around in my head for a thesis project. Seriously! (er, Semi-Seriously!) I'll just add that one would have thought that being true geek bourgeois meant leaving the uniform at home and having a non-geek of the female persuasion flying in close formation.
Anyway, rubbing shoulders with cool people is always, uh, cool. I've recently been drinking with senior cabinet ministers and attending lectures from a certain individual who would cause Farquie and Omega to detonate messily. But no Michael Dorn. So you have me beat!

In my experience, patheticness (if there is such a word) is in the eye of the beholder. Yeah, an Avenger-class starship with transwarp drive and all that jazz seems really stupid to us. Somebody gave that phaser three stars for the "educational" rating? Is my understanding of what's educational, and what's *not* so different from other people?
I wouldn't give most textbooks that I've seen three stars.
Hold it. It's only twenty two dollars? Yippee! Christmas present! Because now my home-made Star Trek parody will have props! Though the Starfleet phaser duels I have with Ennio Morricone music blasting will seem strange, if I only get one. Water pistols aren't nearly so cool. And besides, I've always pictured Kirk doing a two-gun/phaser style like Chow Yun Fat against those damn dirty Klingons...I'll have to get two, for special cinematic purposes.
