For those who are familiar with Law and Order (the original series), you have heard of one Danielle Melnick, defense attourney. At last count, she has been in at least 10 episodes as attourney for the defense, representing various clients.

Melnick's current client has been accused of shooting a prominent lawyer, and in the process obtained confidential information regarding the addresses of other members of the bar. So this client asks Melnick to give an address to a friend of his (saying that he knows an "expert" willing to testify for him). Turns out that the address belongs to a prominent DA who sent one of the client's friends to jail (his address is in the Confidential information stolen from the dead lawyer). This DA is soon found murdered.

It turns out that Melnick was used as a patsy by her client to commit murder (of course she didn't know that she was being set up). Her good friend, Jack McCoy tries to save her career as well as save her from jail time for conspiracy to commit murder. When Melnick refuses to testify against her client for fear of breaching Attourney-Client privelege, McCoy resorts to a tactic against the client by saying she will testify, and will offer him a deal in exchange for saying that Melnick is innocent.

The client takes the deal, and Melnick is absolved of all charges. She is then shot by the client's associate. As the episode ends, they are wheeling Melnick out on a stretcher, but they don't say if she will survive.

Let's hope she does.

Well, I mean, I certainly don't wish death upon anyone, even fictional characters, but still, I wouldn't be sad to see the actress leave the show.

She certainly has been the weakest actress sidekick to Cowboy Jack McCoy out of, well, "Mrs. Jason Seahorn," or "The James Bond Girl" or "That Girl Who Has Her Own Show Now."

The Irony is that McCoy was trying to save Melnick's skin, but may have inadvertently gotten her shot instead.

uh pym, she isn't McCoy's Sidekick. She's just a recurring character. L&O never had a recurring character get shot. McCoy's current sidekick is Elisabeth Rohm.

Ah, okay. Paying attention and retention are skills I have yet to master.

Are they even able to keep a "McCoy's sidechick" for more than a year anymore? Maybe they should just make a female clone of Sam Watterston and have her play the part...

Tahna!!! YOU FOOL!!! What's his name, Paul Sorvino, was SHOT!!! I REMEMBER THAT AND I AM NOT THE L&O WHORE!!! AND ONE OF THE FIRST DETECTIVES WAS SHOT AND KILLED AT THE END OF THE FIRST SEASON!!!!

Snay, I said RECURRING character. Of course, I do know that Greevey and Ceretta were both shot. Mention was made about this long before the events, so it was kinda expected. I don't think anyone predicted Melnick's shooting in the first place.

Sheesh.

Oh, right, 'cuz those characters weren't recurring. No, they only recurred in a lot of episodes. But they had their names in the credit, so I guess there's an "out" ...

... grrrr!

This is what happens when you miss the last five minutes of the show. I saw the whole thing but missed the end. I didn't know she got shot, but I do remember she's been in several other episodes.

As for Rohm, she's growing on me. I didn't think I'd ever get over my hot flashes for Angie Harmon, but the blondie is starting to do something for me. Her performance is improving too.

Another character I miss is the DA from last season. I can't remember, did they ever explain why she left after only two years in the position?

i wish Adam hadn't left. he was my favorite DA in recent memory.

Adam was the first DA wsn't he? I thought he was the last original character to leave.

Posted by EdipisReks (Member # 510) on :

And then they turned all Goldeneye on us with the lady.

Adam Schiff was not the original DA. The DA in the pilot was a rather "conservative Republican" George Will-looking fellow. Steven Hill as Adam Schiff showed up in the 1st production episode.

Interesting note: When I was working for the Lew Wallace campaign back in CT, House Democrats sent us a guy to help run our campaign as they did with all the targeted races. The guy they sent us was some hotshot who'd been in California for the past 10 years doing the big races, & he had a bunch of campaign lit with him from them.

As I looked through the piece of lit, I came across one that had a picture of a guy in his early-to-mid 40s with his family that said "ADAM SCHIFF FOR SHERIFF." I held it up & said, "You gotta be kidding me, right?" Turns out Adam Schiff is a real guy & a close personal friend of Dick Wolf, the creator of L&O. When the DA post was being rewritten, he used his friend's name & the rest is history.

As for "sidechicks," NO ONE will EVER compare to hot-as-fuck Jill Hennessey. Never mind that the character she's playing on "Crossing Jordan" now is for all intents & purposes her. Never mind that she's fluent in Italian (& married to one)...but she's got an identical twin sister, Jacqueline. Check out the Jeremy Irons movie "Dead Ringers" for Jill & Jacque as identical twin hookers. She also came in handy for that first L&O/Homicide crossover. Jill was needed in NYC for a scene at the same time they were doing one in Baltimore. Since the NYC shot had lines, she did that one & Jacque sat in for her in the background in Baltimore.

Finally, L&O: CI is pretty fucking cool. Vincent D'Onofrio=teh r0xx0rz!

i think it's cool has NYC has such a large supply of hot as all get out assistant DAs. makes me want to commit a crime there.

It's much the same as all CSI units having total babes working in the crime labs.

I would kill to work there, except that they would catch me.

they made a huge error at the end of CSI tonight. apparently, apparently HIV viruses are now made of cells. hmmmmmmm.

Well, the CSI shows fuck a lot of stuff up, on top of making the crime scene investigators seem like rock stars.

They've often made some almost superhuman leaps of logic on CSI. Nobody is that good! (At least not within the typical one week investigation period that the show covers.)

Also, most real CSI people are fat. Food is their only vice, you know?

i'm sorry, but William Petersen is that good.

Bill is a special case.

ok, then. CSI: Miami is significantly less wowsers, but hopefully the fact that Kim Decan'tfuckingact is leaving the show will let it get better.

Posted by Free ThoughtCrime America (Member # 480) on :

I watched CSI: Miami once or twice, and then dropped it.

They've screwed up by having a spin-off so quickly. Over-saturation, man.

Posted by EdipisReks (Member # 510) on :

yeah, i defintely agree. CSI would have been ready for a spinoff in 3 or 4 years, but not now. though, of course, CSI is the only CBS show with good ratings (well, fucking fantastically great ratings, in this case) so they had to do something.

Defense Attourney of the week: And we wouldn't even be speaking to the DA's office if it wasn't for the appearance of the lovely Ms. (Assistant DA of the year).

Aban: When CBS originally started out with their pilot "Everybody's Favourite Bagman", the DA was Alfred Wentworth. When NBC picked up L&O, that's when Schiff comes in.

I don't know why Dianne Wiest left the show, but in the series, it was mentioned that D.A. Lewin was only considered interim after the retirement of Adam Schiff. As for Lewin herself, it was mentioned that she ran for term as D.A. and was defeated by Arthur Branch, a right-winger who was elected as a response to 9/11. I kinda like the guy though. Lotta wit like Schiff. Not like what Lewin had.
