Just that... crap. I think my laptop finally crashed. It's an IBM Thinkpad 600E... old I know. When I bought it, it's primary use was the DVD player for movies and to get online.

I was using it the other day, unplugged the AC adapter to plug in my external USB zip drive, the battery died and shut off. So I plugged the laptop adapter back in, and now it says a systemboard error. I was able to get XP Pro to load up in Safe Mode once, now it won't give me the choice. It also comes up with some fault codes preventing the OS from working.

I have no clue what to do other than try to buy a new laptop... that I could actually afford.

You should've sprung for an iBook, Hobbes! I seem to recall I told you that when you first said you were getting a laptop last year. [Razz]

(Sorry, you wanted constructive suggestions, right?)

Well, I know some people are pretty leery of buying the really big stuff over eBay, but from what I've seen there are some decent controls in place these days. My dad bought a laptop for my mom as a Christmas gift there about four months ago, and there was no problems... mostly. The reason he'd chosen that particular item was because it came with several software titles included with the shipment, including Microsoft Office and a few other things, making it a good deal overall. Unfortunately, he suspects that at least some of the CD's were copied, making them pirated software...

So basically, it's the usual -- caveat emptor, but there can still be some good opportunities out there! [Smile]

I bought my ThinkPad off eBay. It never had a problem until now. Tomorrow I plan to head over to Best Buy and Circuit City to look at laptops if mine doesn't start working again.
