Ah, even though his show ended in August of 2001, he will be remembered as a great children's host, and a pioneer of TV. Goodbye, Mr. Rogers.

The neighbourhood just isn't going to be the same.

I read this news early this morning... Damn, this makes me very sad. And I feel very old. (Yeah yeah, I know I ain't old!) I grew up watching his show every day... I even wrote him a letter once.
It's not so beautiful a day in the neighborhood now... Posted by deadcujo (Member # 13) on February 27, 2003 05:44 AM:

If we are measured by the caring, kindness, goodness and gentleness which we show to others, Fred Rogers was ten miles tall.
He told us we were all special, and in doing so, made it true.

"I now live in a world without Mr. Rogers."
I actually was muttering that statement to myself for several hours after I heard the news. He was truly one of the nicest people on the face of the earth. I suspect there will never be another like him.

It was funny, yesterday morning I was talking to SSGT. about Mr. Rogers. He was saying that he was a former Drill Instructor for the Marines. A joke perhaps, but he is the mostly likely person to do a Full Medal Jacket.
Of course when we were talking no one told us he died that morning, since we both thought he was over a hundred and still kicking.
I never watched Mr. Rogers, because my parents thought it was a stupid show.

Sadness...
He made millions of children happy every day. And that's one of the greatest gifts anyone can give. He'll be missed...

I never watched it, either. Later, I wasn't sure why. According to my parents, it was because I thought it was a stupid show. I think they're probably right.

Why do you think they're right in thinking it's stupid?

No, I think TSN meant, they were probably right in saying that TSN thought the show was stupid when he was a child.

Yes. I don't actually recall ever having an opinion on the show when I was a child. However, knowing what I know of it now, I believe it's quite probable that I saw it in my youth, deemed it unworthy of my attention, and ceased to watch it. Not to put the man down, or anything. I'm sure the show was useful for some kids. It just wasn't my style.
