Today, I was coming down Sweet Air road heading west towards the Papa John's I work at, following a delivery. I cross Manor Road, and as I'm approaching Blenheim Road ... I see two police cars, lights flashing. Cops in Jacksonville? NEVER. Then I see a bunch of kids on the side of the road. Oh, gosh, they got called on for loitering, I figure.
And then I see it.
The mud and grass is ripped up. An Acura Integra is wedged past a shattered fence, in a grove of flowers, the rear punched up on a tree. It's facing east, but at such an angle I believe it must've been headed west.
And then I recognize the car: it belongs to a fellow driver at Papa John's. He's a real loser - he was fired twice as an assistant manager for theft, and twice more as a driver. He'd just been rehired a week earlier.
This is the kicked, and the question. Joe was what you'd call "cheap." He only paid for himself to be insured in the Acura. He'd just bought it, used, for about $16k, a few months earlier - all financed.
Here's the thing. Joe WASN'T driving. Some girl he met the night before was. She doesn't have insurance of ANY kind.
I saw the car as it was being pulled onto a flatbed. It's completely fucked -- if it's not totaled, it'll cost a small fortune to get it running again.
As I understand it ... Joe's insurance won't cover it since the driver wasn't covered on his policy. Her insurance won't cover it since she doesn't have any. Joe's got to pay for the car, presumeably the fence and property damage, as well as I'm sure tickets for reckless driving and the like.

You seem to have forgotten to include the actual question.

There was none, really. But "Joe Kirby Fucks Himself!" wouldn't have gotten a lot of attention, I'd wager.

Stop the insanity....
I doubt he'll get the tickets, since she was the driver, unless he loaned the car to an unlicensed driver....
No, I won't double post....

He got the shaft for theft but was rehired anyway? Might as well hand him the register...

He was fired for actually stealing cash when the store was corporate. He BSed his way back when the store was franchise, and was fired for closing two hours early on a Friday night -- stealing money from the store? Not directly, but robbing the store of business in those two hours, yes.

Still, is the franchise owner brain dead.
"Hi my name is Johnny and I stole from the Establishment, but I won't steal from you, can I have a job?"
"Well, uhh, duhh, sure Johnny...."
Sounds like the owner(s) aren't that bright to begin with.

Okay, let me make sure to get this straight - he'd only insured HIMSELF? First, most car insurance covers the VEHICLE, not the driver. Second, if the car was financed, and for that much, it's kinda required to have comprehensive coverage, at least here in WA, so how did he manage to get insurance that won't cover this, at LEAST under his underinsured motorist clause....?
I'm confused.
And yes, he should not be employed. He's an idiot, and so are the people that keep hiring him. But that's not the point.
And female drivers suck. Pleh.

I am disappointed that she, or he, did not die. The story was almost a let down, without that conclusion.

Oh, and about the insurance too, with any kind of lein on the vehicle full coverage is a must here...

Here's where it gets good.
Joe had a Toyota a few months ago. I don't know what kind ... a sporty one, don't think it was a Celico, tho. When he bought his Acura (and sold the Toyota) he failed to notify the insurance company about the switch from Toyota to Acura. As a result, they're now REFUSING to cover the damage. At least, this is what I heard from his bro.
Good stuff.
