I was at my girlfriend's house on Saturday night when my mom calls. She informs me that they're putting the house up for sale and we're moving. Mind you, we're not moving far from where we are now, just about a 5 minute drive. The new house is bigger (by 402 sq. ft.) and has 1.5 acres of land with it (compared to our current <1/2 acre). I'm still kinda aprehensive about moving out of the house I grew up in, but I think it might be interesting. The new house doesn't seem that bad. The good side is we'll be getting a new, bigger pool for the new house. [Smile]

For comparison, here is my current house and here is my new house.

I'll be sure to keep you all up to date on what's going on. There is a couple that is interested in buying the house, they're a friend of the family. But we can only sell to them as a private sale, so I don't know what's going to happen with that.

WHAT?! $117,900?! Okay, it's a wooden bungalow in the middle of nowhere, but houses w/ the same (and often less) acreage and a pool don't go for under $400,000 here...

Damn, Nebraska real estate is cheap! My house (1699 square feet, 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage, 9000 square foot lot, no pool) was $133,000 when we bought it (it's now valued about $150K), and Fernley, Nevada is sticksville. The nearest "big city", Reno, is 30 miles away, and for all that the locals think it's a city, it's really more of a village (especially after Tokyo). Maybe I ought to start looking at Nebraska...

Were they to erect Trump towers anywhere in the maritimes, they'd sell for no more than thirty nine dollars.

Because who wants to intentionally move there anyway?

Well, some of the coves are nice. But they smell like fuck.

Actually, I live in New Brunswick, a Canadian maritime province. So, those prices are in CAD, which makes it even cheaper to someone from the US. When my parents bought this house in 1983, it was $38 500. In 20 years, the price of the place has gone up $60 000, probably a lot of that due to the landscaping and building my parents have done. In 1983, there was no garage, no shed, a small deck, no pool, no screenhouse, and a gravel driveway. But yeah, living in NB isn't all that expensive, especially when compared to other places.

We're going to move to New Zealand. They have some pretty affordable houses. . .

Why move to New Zealand?

So, your room is the pink one, right? [Big Grin]

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

I haven't actually seen the house yet. My parents have, though. And if the room is pink, it won't be for long...

If I were w/ my girlfriend ("ha!" I hear you say, and rightly), and my parents called me and said they were selling the house and moving, my reaction would be "What, now? Where should I come home to, then?".

I mean, seriously, they couldn't have waited for you to get home? Surely it wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision that couldn't wait? Impulse-buying houses seems like a bad idea.

Going for lavender?

Why move to New Zealand? Because we're sick of living in the UK.

So, from the south of England to the north of England to the south of England to the other side of the world... you just can't please some people. :]

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Um, when did I ever mention moving to or from the North of England? Because, well, I did. But how do YOU know?!

Posted by Cartmaniac (Member # 256) on :

Erh, because you told us?

Where London = the North, of course. )

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

London is not the North of England!

Posted by Cartmaniac (Member # 256) on :

Well, no, not in the geographical sense. :]

Actually, truth be told this whole thing was a whim. My parents had been contemplating moving for a little while now. My dad has always wanted more land, and they haven't been happy with things that have been going with the neighbours lately (its a long story and I'd rather not tell it here). They saw a house on the Campbell Road that they liked and contacted the real estate agent and well, the rest is above.

And what a lovely one it IS. Relevance?

Well, its now official. Our house has been sold and the new house has been bought. We're going to be out of this house and into the new one by the end of August. So, don't mind if I'm incommunicado for a while, I'll be busy stowing everything in boxes. [Smile]

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

There's been a change of plans. The people who were going to buy the house didn't get approved for the loan. So, the house is back on the market and we have to wait for another offer [Frown]

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Well my house has now officially been sold. We have to be out by 18 August.

Well, good. If you need help moving ...

... call U.M. He'll help.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

I'd help, but I live thousands of miles away. If you were willing to pay for air travel, I might consider it. It all depends on when my body decides to forgive me for my recent move. So far, it still hates me after two weeks.

Well the bank finally approved things and our new house now belongs to us. Everything's slowly getting packed up, and we plan to move in on the weekend of August 16-17.

So, I will probably be incommunicado around that time. Not sure how long it will take to get the internet hooked up again as they have to come in and install a second phone line in the new house. I only wish the new house was in an area with HS internet. [Frown]

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Well, its that time. Packing the last bit of stuff away. My computer is getting packed up tomorrow, and it won't be unpacked until Tuesday. Not sure when I'll have internet back, though. In the meantime, if anyone needs to get a hold of me send an email to [email protected], as all my email accounts are accessed through Outlook. I'll be stopping by Flare and checking email at my girlfriend's house in the meantime, when I have the time.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Bleh. A lot of good that email did me, I never got to check it! Anyways, I'm all settled in to the new house now, and have just gotten internet back today. Apparently the phone company has been really busy lately and didn't get a chance to come and install our lines and jacks. Also, because my mom is an employee, she gets lower priority when they're busy, which is a bit backwards but anyways.
