Or a new computer.

So, I'm sitting here, and the mouse will occasionally freeze on me. The cursor just stops cursing. The computer itself is ok and not frozen, in other words I can still type in a WP document and can use the arrows to move around, it's just that the mouse won't move.

It usually seems to happen when I've got several items open at once or when I've got a game up and runningm but it's been hard to find a pattern because it will and will not happen during both of those times.

This has been happening for the last four of five days and yes, before you ask, the mouse is plugged in properly. It's all rather annoying because the only solutions I can think of have done nothing to fix the problem and when it happens all I can do is reboot and start new.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

Well, it would help if you gave some actual information.
Re: age of the computer, components, age, OS, etc.

But without any info....try finding newer drivers for one of/or both your motherboard and mouse.

If the mouse is USB, try unplugging it and plugging it back in.
If the mouse is PS/2, try a new mouse.
If the mouse is serial, try a new computer [Wink]

Have you checked to see if the ball is actually rolling and/or moving the wheels inside the mouse? Might there be something jammed in the well? Assuming, of course, this isn't an optical mouse. [Smile]

turn on whatever option it is that lets you move the mouse pointer with your keyboard, so you retain at least some functionality. Shoot, I navigated '95 on a 486/33 for a year with nothing but a keyboard. I'm sure you can hack it. [Wink]

Oh, and scan for addware. You might have something installed that's trying to pop up and instead is screwing with things.

Right, sorry, there should be some more detailed information here.

I have a 1998 Pentium II 3333 MHz that uses Windows 98.

The acutal mouse is, and I'm reading off the back of the mouse here, a Wheel Mouse Optical USB and PS/2 Compatible.

And I'm starting to think that the mouse may have been banged up. Since this is a optical, that may point to getting a new mouse.

As your attorney, I advise you to rent a fast car with no top.

Liar.

There no such thing as a Pentium II 3333.

I regret to say that the CIA advised me to put an extra 3 on the description to make you think I had a great machine. [Wink]

It is of course a 333 MHz with a toaster and a microwave.

The problem, as it turns out, was the mouse. I got a new one and everything seems to be working fine.

Now, I'll have to see how this new mouse works on my new computer!

we got a new Dell, which has the following:

There always has to be one.

With time, effort, and money, I could have built my own car too.

I have a technical problem. [Frown]

In IE (5 I think) I can't properly access my History. Everything is listed up to Last week except "4 Weeks Ago", and the previous days in the current week (ie if today were Thursday, Mon-Wed would not be shown). The problem is, I can't access anything before the "6 Weeks Ago" mark.

Q1: What's wrong with my History (and dare I ask, computer)?

Q2: How do I go about fixing this problem in the simplist way?

Cheers!

-AK

It sounds like your copy of IE has the preference of only saving your visited sites for 20 days. You can change how long it does save them. Go to Tools, Internet Options, the General tab and change the number from 20 to whataver you like.

But the numer of days is "999". It has been like that since I got my PC as I often need to do long-past searches. What else could it be?
