Hello Everyone!

Well my Name is NASA, I am LOA's little sis, so what ever she has said about me is wrong... ;-) And sorry guys.... you wont get any info about her from me ..... Anyways... LOA told me I should come and post here to see if any of you guys could point me in the right direction in my newest challenge. You see I am a HUGE space buff, going to college to be an astronaut, and I have done LOADS od National and international awards and stuff in the field of Space and Astronomy. And recently at the national astronomy convention I was informed by a friend that I could go on an Astronomical tour to egypt to watch the venus transit of the sun..... the kicker was that the only way i could pay for it is if i can get a NASA Space Grant. so to get a NASA Space Grant, i ahve to have some form of research that I can do while in Egypt. SO... my thoughts are, if I can find the right info, I figured I could study and recreate Egyptian Astronomy..... It would fit in with what i need to do for the NASA Space grant, the research needed for the proposal, and then the recreation, and the hands on astronomy that I can do while in egypt. and then i can do the report when I get back to the US.... So now that leaves me at where I am at this time.... I got contact information for the British museum, and the Museum of Antiqueties in Cairo, along with a few other smaller museums that have loads of egyptian artifacts. And that is about it, I have only known for about this opportunity for about a week..... So do any of you guys have any ideas about what i can do , or where i can go to get the info???

well thanks...

Hey, you -

Did you think to e-mail Rocket? He probably has a few ideas.... just a thought. Should have thought of it sooner..... [Razz]

Liz said you have pictures of her in a Hooters shirt. You can e-mail them to me, please. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

*ROTFL* I did NOT say that!

And I now have two Hooters shirts, FYI!... a black one for regular wear, and a white one for washing cars and getting wet..... or something like that..... [Wink]

I want the photos of Liz in the white shirt. Preferably after the application of some sort of liquid over her head. Thank you kindly.

Well..what exactly are you looking for? Information of the astronomy? Reasons behind it? Theories?

Liz DID, however, say that. *points to sig*

Well then Malnurtured Snay.... if i sent you th photos for which you has asked for.... I would also have to then inflick pain to you and all that saw the photos... soo sorry, not worth it... [Smile]

LOA, Rocket would not know about egyptian astronomy from nearly 5000 years ago.. my goal is to find the techniques of Imohtep, who was a major astronomy in the 3rd dynesty..... :-P

and Saltah'na sure try and interrogate me... [Smile] now the question will be what is the real info and what is the not so real info.... [Smile]

Nasa, you have no idea what an Interrogation is like here. Ask your older sister. Or ask Charles Capps (the admin here). Both were "interrogated" thoroughly here.....

Oh, dear.... you have NO idea what you're getting into when interrogation time comes around *LOL*

And BTW everyone - just a warning to all of you - this is my LITTLE sister.... don't cross any lines [Wink] Sure she's 18, but in my eyes she's still little! [Smile]

My my, such crass behaviour.

In regards to your project, one thing you might try while you're there is to see if any of the monuments are aligned to certain stars and constellations. I live near Stonehenge and they reckon whoever built that knew a thing or two about astronomy and geometry and I'm sure the Egyptians snuck a few significant alignments into their worship sites, given that they were effectively sky worshipers.

Of course to do that you'd have to plot the monuments and backdate the starcharts 5000 years to compensate for procession.

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

But as we all know, Stonehenge is a vagina. Therefore pyramids equal the tits.

3500 BC: The Zorklonians land in Egypt & go to the bathroom. The locals call the results "pyramids," their word for "big alien dumpers in the sand."

Posted by NASA2030 (Member # 1079) on :

Shik,

Okay lets get this over with now.... Imohtep, was Viser to the Pharaoh Djoser, in the 3rd dynesty... she was the builder of the first pyrimid, the red step pyrimid. Now i know about all the mummy movie crap, where they use the name of Imohtep as high priset to Seti the first i beleive, but seti was in the 19th dyanesty, which in fact was nearly 1500 years after the lifetime of the real imohtep.

[Wink] just a little infor for you

Reverend,

Yes the pyramids of Giza... the 3 large ones that everyone knows about...are believed to have been built following the Orion built, however, if memory serves me correct, the constellation that we know as Orion, was to the Egyptian, Osirus...or was it Ra.... well anyways the constellation was based on one of their most formidable gods............ Another fascinating fact about the pyramids is the fact that the enterences face almost due north... there is a .1 degree difference, which Egyptologist suspect is due to the wobble of the earth and not a miscalculation

NASA

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

Actually, I knew all of that about Imhotep. This is why I was given dirty looks as I screamed at the screen, "Oh, for fuck's sake, just build the man's monument & be DONE with it."

The Brendan Fraser reference was what in the business refer to as "comedy."

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

Osiris was in Orion. Ra was represneted by the Aten, I believe...the Sun Disk.

Now when you say "find the technigues of Imhotep"...his techniques for what exactly?

Posted by NASA2030 (Member # 1079) on :

Shik,

My technique, is to go out side and set up a telescope and use star charts to do all my observing, Messier, set up his telescoped and looked at all the fussy stuff he could and then catalouged it all....... So what did Imohtep and other great egyptian astronomers do.. what, if any tools did they use??? basicly... how did they observer, and can i recreate it...

Yeah, remember Extra Magnus? That guy wasn't a hoot. "DOWN TEH BUTT !!" and all that.

Also (on topic for once) Graham Hancock might be a quack, but he's a very interesting/self-effacing/well-researched quack:
quote:
...(6) Robert Bauval and I have jointly evolved a tentative 'theory of Giza' over the past five years of our work together. Briefly this theory -- which we offer as a serious alternative to the orthodox 'tombs and tombs only' hypothesis -- is that the three great pyramids of Giza, and the Great Sphinx, form a symbolic architectural model of some of the principal stars of the Duat sky-region (through which the Pharaohs believed that their souls would travel after death) as that sky-region appeared at dawn on the spring equinox in the epoch of 10,500 BC. Citing the geological findings of John Anthony West and Robert Schoch, we have argued, and continue to maintain, that the Great Sphinx and its associated megalithic structures may actually have been built in that distant epoch. We have also argued, and continue to maintain, that the three great pyramids in general are likely to be much younger than the Sphinx and that they should probably be assigned to the Fourth Dynasty (rather than to any other period) because of the alignments of the star shafts...

Well, you've had plenty of pictures of LOA for about 5 years now, and I've yet to see you produce any embarrassing or irksome collages of her! What's the matter, she too old for you? Coming down with the Curse of Shik? 8)

You have not been looking in the right places. Also I've recently been dating(gasp!) a (gasp!) 34-year-old (which is like 38 in NZ years or something), so in answer to your question: no LOA is not too old. It's just that I crave the sweet young blood.

Because I am a pixelpusherextraordinaire.

Jeez, why you gotta go thinking everything is about your breasts. Do you just assume we're all a bunch of drooling and horny science-fiction nerds fixated on that single (and ultimately insignificant) physical attribute instead of appreciating you as an entire person, a beautiful and complex creature of light possessed of a soul and a mind (and perhaps a slightly unhealthy obsession with car-audio paraphernalia)? I mean, is that what you really think we're like?

(re-reads akb's reply) Oh yeah. I forgot... well...OK then.
