Does anyone know where I can buy a Mekleth? I saw one on eBay, but I lost my bid, and I'm not having any luck finding anyone on the net who sells Klingon props.

I know a couple of folks who are really into Klingon stuff, One of them is a metalworker and made his own mek'leth and bat'leths, some for show, some edged. The others purchased theirs from knife and sword vendors at cons, ren-fairs or gun shows. I know I see them at gun shows all the time around here.
I saw a batleth at our local flea-market. it was not edged, and the leather handles were shoddily done. Buyer beware.

Just buy a real weapon from museumreplicas.com : there is an amazing (and tougher than klingon) weapon called a "midevil chopper" that is sharper than hell.

I love the design of the Bat'leth and mek'leth, I dislike the props used in the series.
With the exception of Kahless' Uber-bat'leth, the bat'leths and Worf's mekleth look like they were made of tin, had no weight and thus no momentum, no steel sound effect upon clashes, plus the metallic-grey finish looked like that of plastic swords.
The smart thing would've been to A: put runes or fullers on the dull, unexploited surfaces to take the eye away from the tin, and B:, use some decent sound effects for the melee exchanges, making them sound more solid.
I wonder if anyone on Sword Forum International would be interested in making a 'real' mek'leth, with thick steel and leather bindings. For hobby purposes. One can dream...

The thing I had a problem with was that the prop people could never decide where the blade was sharp and where it wasn't. If it's a sword, I'd assume that the entire forward edge is sharp as well as the undercuts at the ends. But time and time again, we see that forward edge used to butt someone in the face, and down they go with their skull intact. A blow like that from a properly edged weapon would easily cleave the facial bones.
But hey... it's cooler to just butt people in the face anyway... so I'm not complaining.

I just came home from watching "Pirates of the Caribbean", so I am very sick and tired of clever, pacifist swordsmanship!!!

Why not try the swap meet? I found the Hirogin blade weapons there.

A lethal combination.

Ouch.
The last time I saw a Mekleth it was in a display of goods confiscated by HM Customs and Excise.

Now THAT would be an embarassing reason to get the airport locked down....
