Back in October, the results of a study by a British scientist on humor around the world were announced. Supposedly, they found the world's funniest joke. http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/WolfFiles/wolffiles237.html#1

I get that one, but this one has me completely confused. Supposedly people in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and NZ found this joke involving word play extremely funny. For the life of me, I can't even understand it.

PATIENT: "Doctor, I've got a strawberry stuck up my bum."

DOCTOR: "I've got some cream for that."

Can anyone explain why it's funny? I don't get it at all. Are there alternate meanings of "strawberry" not used in North America?

Thanks!

Double entendre. Strawberries and cream vis a vis medicated creme for treating uncomfortable rectal conditions.

If I recall my Python, the world's funniest joke has military applications as well.

The Pythons' "Funniest Joke" was funnier than the one the scientists came up with. And it was just mock-German gibberish.

Yes, and it was deadly too...

Strange, I have heard it several times, but unlike the German soldiers shown in Flying Circus I am still in excellent health. [Wink]

On the other hand, we Germans are well known for our missing sense of humour... [Razz]

Cream is also slang for semen here in the UK. So its an anal sex reference too.

Maybe where you live... [Wink]

Certainly not where I live. Spunk, jizz, yes. Cream, no.

Good lord, people. Where do you think the rock group 'Cream' took their name from? It wasn't an excessive interest in dairy products!

Not that anyone cares abut them anyway...

I'm sure they're crying into their royal silk pillows as we speak.

Those would be the pillows stuffed with cash from all their mopey songs.

I just have a tough time accepting agnst from multi-millionares these days.

The cash thing was implied in the "royal silk" part. But well done for removing all the subtlety. You rule.

But Vedder told Boys Life magazine that they were named after a grandmother named Pearl who made good jam. BOYS LIFE.

Well, it is an authority paper. Or would be, if you were (unfortunate enough to be) a member of its target audience.

Sol....why are you reading Boy's Life?

Mabye it's a tale best left untold....

Surely I wasn't the only one to have Boy Scout membership forced upon him as a youth?

10cc? Geez. Does that take some kind of special training, or something?
