...very afraid. As of yesterday, I am part of the electorate.
I was also not particularly hung over this morning, which was frankly rather surprising.

No, i'm talking about me being 18, but wanted a slightly more original way of starting the thread than 'It's my birthday'. And I'm British.

No, he's talking about stuff that isn't related to America. Shocking, I know.
Anyway, surely you should be going out tonight? After all, it's your birthday today, and a Friday to boot. Much more sensible date for getting drunk on.

Thursday is student night in Lincoln. Which means 1 a pint, which means people could buy me more for less. Which they did. Getting up at 7 on Friday was interesting though.

That's when the dump truck starts to lift the container in question vertically, to empty the innards into itself. Risky business.

Well, since no one has the decency to say it, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
I actually figured it out from the first post. Honestly, anybody over 18 is part of the electorate.

You are smart.
And since he wanted a slightly more original way of starting the thread than 'It's my birthday', we naturally had to come up with slightly more original ways of saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! to him in return. Duh.

Can you have a drink on your 18th birthday in the UK? Because where I live you can vote but are still a second class adult because you can't drink until you are 19. Most of the US is even worse you are a second class adult there until you are 21.

Yes, you can drink in the UK when you are 18. University students are encouraged to do so, in fact. The first year of uni (during which everyone is 18-19) is structured to be as easy and pointless as possible, as almost all students are far too drunk to do any real sort of work.
They balance that by making the third year an absoulte bastard. Not that it matters, since our unis are better than American's. It doesn't matter if they teach you less, simply saying that "I went to an English university" will get you any job you want in the US, from McDonalds manager to ruler of everything.
Americans cope with this by inventing bullshit reasons as to why drinking is only done by losers. They therefore create the big extremist opinions on drinking that they do with everything from politics to religion, ruining any chance of reasonable debate on the subject.
Most obvious thing to point out: In some US states you can have sex at 14. Legally, you can create a life 7 years before you can drink champagne to celebrate it.
If you want to partake in other alcohol related topics, why not try the flameboard? Perhaps throw in something on gun control, and you've got everything you need for a fun 10 page discussion.

Hmmmm Ok. "I think we should allow 12-year olds to have sex, buy guns and drink alcohol. Anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot because I live in America so that makes me always right and 100% better than you."
How's that?

Yes, you can drink (legally) when you're 18 here. Although that doesn't stop most people; I know the US is really strict, last time I was over there I was limited to drinking beer in my hotel room. Some people.
