My ICQ list has offed itself again. If anyone wants to talk to me using that particular service, contact me at 1092BLAH8359, without the blah. Or you could just use AIM, which would be much simpler.

Comparing AIM, ICQ and MSN is a little like comparing the three most appealing types of, uh, something not very appealing, like flesh-eating disease. You're going to suffer pain no matter what client you use.

Stick to IRC if you know what's good for you. B)

MSN is quite frankly one of the BEST IM clients out there, with an extensive amount of features, great UI, excellent usability, etc. Though you have to worry at least a bit about spyware thanks to the way it works.

The only reason I prefer ICQ to MSM is because I like the whole "type your message then the window dissapears" way it works. It makes it easier to chat while doing other things.

I prefer just using GAIM or Miranda to keep all the protocols together. Of course, I have to open that protocol's specific client if I want to do something as simple as send or receive a file depending on what protocol it is. I can't stand AOL's AIM client in Windows simply because of the blinking in the taskbar. Truly annoying stuff.

I've tried Trillian before, but just didn't enjoy using it. Miranda has really grown on me, despite its lack of certain protocol-related features. Perhaps it's the simplistic design of Miranda and the ability to customize the display and operation that catches my eye. Trillian, on the other hand, looks horrid out of the virtual box. Sure, I can download skins to fit my overly-minimalistic needs, but I still can't stand Trillian.
