I've noticed this on Spike's reruns of TNG and DS9. It's most noticable when there's a ship going across the screen at a constant speed. Every second, there's an instantaneous but brief jump in speed, as if they removed a couple of frames of video. It's very wierd, because it looks like they've all been fitted with pulse jets. I can't say if any other shows are affected, since it's hard to pick out unless you have something that's supposed to be moving consistently. I think I've seen it with VOY as well (rerun on ABC here), but I can't remember.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this the result of them trying to compress the shows even further?

Thanks,
B.J.

I think they just have a glitchy DVD transfer.
I get that little "mini-skip" on one of my bootleg DVD sets (hey, for season 5 on DVD for $25, i'll live with it!).

It's actually "time-compression" that Spike TV uses so you can watch more commercials.

That's nice of them. When I can watch commercials for car insurance, one of the 5 CSI series they show, and lame ass Old Navy ads that make me wonder who they're trying to target with them.

Yes, always thinking about the consumer....

My current favorite commercials to hate are the SafeAuto Car insurance commercials that air all over the place around here. The set is this super state of the art call center with a giant screen monitor in the middle fo the room and employees using computer monitors straight out of "Minority Report". I'm tempted to call the number just to see how different the reality is from the advertising.

Geico has been doing a lot of semi-funny mock commercials like one for a Fox style reality series Tiny House or the Old Navy like camping one.

Then try this one, it's the best commercial I've seen the past four years, it won awards here in Stockholm.

I think you can figure out which organization is behind it.

That crazy tank industry, the things they'll do the sell their tanks! Next thing you know they'll be out trying to start wars...a neutral people indeed.

Nice. Any idea who the music is by?

That was... greatly underwhelming.

Futurama Guy: That's a german Leopard, we don't build battle tanks.

The ad is for Save the Children and the last text reads "change the prospects for millions of children", literally.

I thought it unexpected that they could spend money to do this, since that CGI-bit is rather costly, no doubt. I mean, for a non-profit organization.

Lee: That's actually the reason I ended up finding the clip on the internet, I really wanted to get the song.
So I talked to Rdda Barnen and they replied that it was written and created solely for the ad and there are no official lyrics. It's officially as long as the clip itself, one minute.

TSN: Darn it, they got to him first, and snoughed out his inner child.

Really?

No tank commercials here, but the next largest thing, the Ford Excursion or some other massively large stupid SUV.

But, like the Murphy's, you're not bitter.

I dredged up this thread again (didn't know it's been almost a year and a half!) because of something I noticed while watching "Q Who" on G4 last night. Or rather, something I *didn't* notice. There's none of that time-compression stutter movement! I thought it seemed that their commerical breaks were a lot shorter than I'm used to now, but I guess that's the result of them playing the show out at its original length.

It's a channel focusing on video games, from what I can tell. And, apparently, Star Trek.

Hooray for the Video Game channel doing right by their demographic.

Hm. It appears as though I'm out of touch with the television world. Of course, going two years without satellite TV will do that to you.

I am so not surprised by certain revelations in this thread.
