Not exactly breaking news as it's been coming for awhile, but did anyone catch his last newscast last night? My apologies in advance to non-US residents for this decidedly Amero-centric thread. For those who don't know, Tom Brokaw is (or was) the anchor for NBC Nightly News.

What I remember most about Brokaw is his coverage of the Sept. 11 attacks. The man never fell apart. He was face to face with all that horror and he never blinked. It made it all the more moving when just a little while later, there was an anthrax scare at NBC and he almost cried when discussing it during an interview.

Tom is just a solid guy. I like Brian Williams too, and I think hye'll do a great job, but Tom Brokaw is one of a kind.

Not to steal away the subject, but I'm just glad Ken Jennings finally lost on Jeopardy! Also not breaking news as the episode was taped back in September and the news was leaked out as soon as taping stopped. Anyway, I think he just threw the game. It wouldn't surprise me one bit. Now H&R Block is gonna do his taxes free or charge for the rest of his life.

Going back, I am going to miss Tom Brokaw, but Brian Williams is just as capable and will do just fine. Now if only Dan Rather would completely retire from CBS. That would leave Peter Jennings from ABC left and I don't see him leaving. anytime soon.

I wish they'd give Mario Machado or Alf Hewitt more chances than they do, nowadays the news business seems to substitute talant with looks.

Ah well, I'm off to bed. Catch you later.

One of the things Brokaw said on his interview on the Today show yesterday morning was that it was the younger group's turn to do something with their careers. In fact, he listed that among his reasons for stepping down. That's minchy. Actually being interested in the welfare and success of your colleagues and giving them opportunities at the expense of your own. He's on my list of the top ten people I'd like to meet someday.

I too will miss Tom Brokaw. I saw the newscast, and though it was a fairly standard "goodbye" speech, I did like the Bob Hope tribute at the end. He's the guy I've been watching for the past three years, although I occasionally watched Peter Jennings on ABC. Never Dan Rather though--he was too boring for me. Good thing, too, that Brian Williams is a decent anchor.

As for Ken Jennings, it was a great run--though he had to end it sometime. Hooray for him.

Wow, his eyes must have been really burning after a whole day without blinking.

'specially with all that ash and rubble. Ick.

So long, Tom. I'll never forget the way you say A-10 Warthog.
