At around 6 pm last night a friend called the house and told us to switch over to the local news. Turns out there was a disturbance at a convenience store/gas station/NB Liquor outlet just 7 minutes from our house. A man was walking down the road with a rifle, fired a few shots into the store, went in, took a hostage, and set fire to the place. He eventually let the hostage go. Firemen weren't allowed to fight the blaze initially for fear of being shot. Propane tanks near the building were popping like popcorn. The rifleman eventually perished, whether or not from the fire or shooting himself is unknown at the moment. The building burnt to the ground but thankfully the fire did not reach the gas pumps or the underground tanks. Still a little hard to believe something like this could happen. But at this time of year people are stressed to the max and tend to snap. Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Terrible, but at least no one except the disturbed man with the rifile was killed.
I imagine that, if you follow your local news, Topher, you'll hear something about the man's motivations in the upcoming few days.

believe it or not though, statically speaking, this isn't the worst time of the year for suicides or events like the 'Rifleman'.
However, for those who are left to cull the debrie, it's still a unfortunate time, indeed Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

You'd be shocked how often this kind of thing happens (historically speaking).
