Got this pic of the star of the new Dukes of Hazzard movie - oh, and Jessica Simpson, Johnny Knoxville, and Stiffler.
Maybe it's just the image ... but does anyone else fail to see a Confederate flag on the roof of that Charger?
Is The General Lee still The General Lee without that flag on the roof?
Oh - one more thing - I'm glad the producers decided to keep the General as a '69 Charger ... I had nightmares about a bright orange '05 Mustang ...

It's the image. The flag's there. The online fans are already in an uproar about this movie, but can you image what would happen if they tried the change the General in any way? However, they are pulling some disclaimer PC crap to explain it away.
I loved the Dukes from the beginning - it started when I was in Kindergarten. But I don't plan on seeing this movie. I have no respect for the actors or the way the producers are treating the original show. None of the original actors like it either. And to paraphrase Ben Jones (aka "Cooter"), if you can't take a 7 year old to see it, it's not worth seeing.

You guys have heard about Country Music Television's job opening, right? For someone to run their official Dukes of Hazard TV show blog for a year, and make the occasional appearance, and make $100,000? Oh, if I were only making it up.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Will the blog be written in english or what passes for the language souther people speak. "Y'all" and such.
Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :
Yes, those southers don't speak the good English like we do here.

I'm not *too* disappointed at the thought of Jessica Simpson in Daisy Dukes... but the movie will still doubtless suck.
I'm not afraid to say it... whoever's playing Bo is a damn sexy lookin' guy... At least from this far away.
And I don't understand what the problem with showing the Confederate flag is. The Dukes were never racist or anything... They were just hicks.

I'm surprised they didn't wait until next year and use the movie as a promo tool for the *new* 2006 Dodge "Charger". Posted by Vice-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :
Ah... no. That would give me nightmares.

The 1999 Charger concept would have been a much worthier successor, IMHO. But alas...

Actually, they will shoot the sequel where the Dukes blow up the General Lee to save Cooter and when they return to the garage they find the '06 Charger with a "-A" license plate.

I remember hearing about the NAACP making a deal big deal about the rebel flag on the General Lee. And considering how fucking PC America has become it wouldn't surprise me if they'd give in to the NAACP's demands over something so trival. God forbid we actually offend anybody in any way imaginable. And I'm almost certain when this movie is released you know someone is going to make a huge fuss about the flag on the car.

You've offended me by using the word God in this clearly racist thread. I insist you use the more pc term, "gender neutral, equal opportunity deity of your choice"

YOU have offended me by suggesting the term NEUTRAL

There were 32 "General Lee's" used for this movie.
Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :
Well that doesn't bode well for this movie.
Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :
229 General Lee's in the original series ranging from the 68-70 model Charger's.

Something like that, the more the better IMO. *Ducks hail of bullets from angry Americans*. It's fairly obvious in some scenes the car makes a huge jump, lands safely whilst crushing the entire suspension and probably smashing the engine block into the road - cut to next shot the General is in perfect condition. I'm surprised they didn't run out of cars to mangle.

The confederate flag was removed for the two TV reunion movies that aired on CBS a couple of years ago. The General was then filmed in a way as to not show the roof and thus piss off the loyal fans who expected to see the flag on the roof.
Posted by Mighty Blogger Snay (Member # 411) on :
You sure about that, Wee Bairns? I saw the first of those reunion films, and don't remember not seeing the flag.
Sol: they destroyed three hundred General Lees, and a hundred police cars over the run of the show.
Also: Jon Frakes guest starred as Boss Hogg's nephew in the 4th season opener.

I will not rest until I see a picture of Will Riker and Boss Hogg together.

All I remember about the reunion movies was that Daisy had jowls and my childhood fantasies were utterly ruined.

Lee,
I scoured the internet for a picture ... but none to be found! The character's name was Commander Jamie Lee Hogg. Er, minus the Commander.

Almost completely positive. Blame it on CBS trying not to offend anyone at the time. But it might have only been one of the reunion movies...damn my hazy memory. And on a side note, near the end of the Dukes TV run, they started filming insane General Lee jumps using miniatures instead of actual Dodge Chargers. As a result, the car could seem to 'do' more and more.
I just realized I'm a Duke's nerd. ...Must hide Duke's of Hazzard boxed sets...
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
Dukes inspried me to ask my mom if we could weld the doors on our car shut. Also to try and slide across the hood of my dad's car. It didn't work all that well.
Refresh my memory, though... who were the two cousins that replaced Bo and Luke? I always found it odd that Jessie had 5 siblings whose kids were all best friends. Maybe it's a southern thing.
Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :
Coy and Vance. *shudder*
Posted by Mighty Blogger Snay (Member # 411) on :
Jesse probably had a lot more siblings ... my grandfather was about the same age as the Jesse character, and he had thirteen brothers and sisters. I think there's an episode where we see Luke's brother, and there's an episode on the 2nd season box set I haven't seen yet where some Duke relatives come to town and get $250k stolen, so I think there are probably more than five siblings ... also, they could be second or third cousins or what have 'ya. And we know there's a branch of the Duke family in England.

My favorite scene so far:
Two bank robbers rob the bank in Hazzard (imagine that) and take Boss hostage as they make their escape. In close pursuit are Bo & Luke in The General Lee. One of the robbers says, "Are they cops?" and the other gets in the backseat of the car, knocks out the rear window, and starts shooting at the Duke boys. Luke perches himself on the passenger side door and starts shooting arrows, one of which lands about half an inch from the robber-in-the-backseat's face. That robber promptly observes, "They's ain't cops! They's injuns!"
Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :
Say what you want about Knight Rider, but you never saw Michael and KITT trying to stop the bad guys with bows and arrows. Then, the General Lee didn't break down the number of times KITT did.
Posted by Mighty Blogger Snay (Member # 411) on :
Well, Luke & Bo are on probation and all - they can't use guns! So they use bow and arrows instead ... er, arrows tipped with dynamite, anyway.

I was sitting at a roundabout yesterday evening and right in front of my eyes went the Starsky & Hutch Car, The A-Team van and the Knight Industries Two Thousand. I thought "Wait a minute, what was that?!" I managed to get around the roundabout as fast as I could, and confirmed I did actually see them. . . Some sort of promotional thing, I guess, I saw them heading into a business park.

Dwight Schultz will be here this Saturday.
It's not a Trek con though- it's some sort of pop-culture thing and yes, Daisy Duke will be in attendance.
I dont know if I can make the cene though (I'd like to meet Schultz) as I have to work 13 hour shifts both before and after the show (I gotta sleep between shifts). Info is here. Damn, there's some hotties gonna be there: Tiffany is still hot....no idea what Barbara Bach looks like now though: could be scary.

It's being done by Radio 1 for Comic Relief. They've also got the DeLorean from Back to the Future, and Mr Beans mini. One of my mates said that you can win one of them. I'm not sure if that's true, but the chance of owning KITT would actually make me explode with pleasure.

It'd be cooler if the made it KARR (just swap the red "eye" for a cool green one).
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
"Luke perches himself on the passenger side door and starts shooting arrows"
Would arrows even be able to catch the car ahead at those speeds? I'd think wind resistance would slow it down too much. I also never understood why the Dukes would risk life and limb to save Boss Hogg when he's just going to try and screw them over next week.
I've always wanted to get one of the back and forth KITT sensors for my car.... I wonder how hard it would be to install.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure it's Catherine Bach, not Barbera... assuming you're talking about Daisy Duke.

I really think I'll go to whatever day Dwight Schultz is appearing. I've always been a fan of his work (yes, I was an A-Team fan as a child).

Because they're the good guys!
Actually, in the episode, the bank robbers bought a used car that had been stolen from the Dukes' cousins and, unbeknownst to the robbers, had $250k in the trunk (the price the cousins had sold their property for). As Waylon said, "Only in Hazzard would robbers steal $10k and use a car with a quarter million in the trunk to make their getaway."

I always liked it when they stopped the General just inches from the County Line, and the evil reflect-o-sunglasses southern chain gang sheriff was always sitting there waiting for them to break their parole.
Guess they must've been off probation when they left the show to join the racing circuit...

William Daniels's accent is more Bostonian than British. After all, the man did play John Adams on screen and on stage.
If you have several thousand dollars laying around somewhere, you can always build your own KITT or KARR. Just keep in mind that they won't be street legal in the United States. If you just want the scanner, you always just buy oneor two.
