Q: How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those
6 as stupid
3 standards zealots to point out that light bulbs have been deprecated in the LB 2.1 spec
1 to call upon everybody to ignore this deprecation
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

you missed:
3 to request adequate spoiler notification about lightbulbs should be put in the topic title.
1 to misspell 'lightbulbs' in the subject heading.
Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :
Also forgotten:
5 to say the links are no longer valid and to directly post pics of the lightbulbs here
1 to say not to post the images inline because it makes the forum look all screwy

You guys seem to think we'd be anywhere near on topic for that many posts.
After five or six posts we'd be talking about sex, politics, beer, Trek or some combonation off all four.

Who are these corporate-whoring pussies that can't even make their own bulbs??? I've found that a galvanized .2mm Wolfram-Stetson filament gives the best glow vs wear figures and I never use anything but the best Appaloosa mountain quartz for the outer case. Screw-mounts you can play around with, I've heard of some great ceramic versions that screw like a dream but mainly I use simple Blissex aluminium sheets that retain grooves perfectly.
The point of balance is usually about 3" from the grip and the center of percussion (what I like to call the 'sweet spot' lol) about 2" after that.

You're just a cheap bastard with waaay too much time on his hands.
Posted by Nim' (Member # 205) on :
Ah yes, keep telling yourself that, Mr "pre-assembled lamps only"-spigot.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
No so! My new floor-lamp required me to risk life and limb by screwing the sectional pieces together and then.... ...attaching the glass shades to not one, but two seperate lamps!
It took all day, but I managed to complete this herculanean task in a style even Bob Vila would have envied. Truthfully, I've been quite the handy-man lately: installing shelves and bookcases in preperation for my Family's arrival.
My place is amazingly cool now.

"Herculean". Unless your lamp was made in Herculaneum, I guess.
Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :
Light-bulb jokes were old ten minutes after Gobel invented the fucking things.
Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
Gobel? Didn't the Ancient Egyptians invent the lightbulb?
Posted by Omega (Member # 91) on :
Goa'uld interference.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Everyone knows the lightbulb was really invented by our parasitic-alien-god-impersonating-overlords.
...and yes, my lamp is made from Herculaneum. Home Depot has them on sale.
I was hoping to buy one made from Neutronium, but I could not lift the box so...
Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :
In Herculaneum. It's a location, not a substance.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
But Herculaneum was destroyed long ago, so why not have a fictional substance while we're at it?
It's as real as anything else in sci-fi (admantium, neutronium, etc.)

"Didn't the Ancient Egyptians invent the lightbulb?"
No, they, that is, some other much less ancient dudes from some village near what would 900 years later become Baghdad, who were either Parthian or Sassanian, allegedly used, and only perhaps invented, despite having no knowledge of electrical theory, crude batteries, or rather, crude galvanic cells, to, again allegedly, electro-plate stuff with them, millennia after the Egyptian landing-pad-for-alien-spacecraft^Z pyramid building and Goa'uld^Z sun-God worshipping phase was in full swing, and certainly the Egyptians themselves never could have, or would have, used the artifacts in that capacity, since iron, of which the central component of those cells was made, was not yet reproducable with the metallurgic techniques of 2500BC, when the last of the Giza pyramids was completed, and there were alternative, and better, methods of lighting their construction sites available, such as copper mirrors reflecting the sunlight into them.
(That was totally the longest sentence ever.)

A world where no one reads your posts.

Well, at least it was Cartman that took the bait. I half expected Liam to come back with that reply..
..but Liam's been getting slow lately.

You, of all people, attempt a one-smiley post? I'm surprised, mr greenfrog. Thought they'd beaten it deeper into you. *raises klingon eyebrow*

Oh, wow, we have finally found an INTERESTING topic to discuss again...
And last but not least the topic starter forgot:
1 to claim that light bulbs in Germany don't have to be changed because they are so good they never break
2 to debate whether light bulbs on the southern hemisphere have to be screwed in counter-clockwise
