Does anyone have a suggestion for software I could use to take some AVI files and convert them to VOB and IFO and whatever other files you need to make a DVD that can be played on a normal DVD player?

Reducing the massive porn archive from your computer?

If, by that, you mean "putting episode of a TV show I downloaded onto a DVD to lend to someone who wouldn't otherwise be able to see it"... then, yes.

Best advice I can give is you use NeroVision Express. All you have to do is load the AVI into the program, make a menu, and it does all the transcoding and burning for you.

Well, it appears that I have NeroVision Express, so that's good. However, it tells me I have to buy a license to encode MPEG2. Like hell, I say!

That's weird. I got a copy of NVE with my burner that could encode MPEG2 just fine. Then I "acquired" the latest version and things work even better.

Looking at the copy of NeroVision Express 2 on my work PC, it appears that it should work. Of course, I don't have any video files handy. But I have lots of AVIs at home needing to be moved off my HD, so maybe I'll try it this weekend.

This place is soooo much better than the TrekBBS...

I think my version of Nero was, as you say, "acquired", so maybe something was missing. I should check and see what came with my DVD burner.
*check, check, check*
Nope, just some crappy software from Ulead. Well, let's see what happens after I get ahold of a newer version of NVE.

Let's just say that these types of conversations are not permitted on that board. Hell, at least one of the moderators is concerned that screencaps constitute a violation of copyright law.
Not that anything in this thread could be taken as definitive proof that anyone of the participants has engaged in any violation of copyright law...

More proof that other board is would a bit too tight.

Who said anything about copyright violation? Heaven forbid...
Also, this statement is a lie. So, decide what you think of that.
Anyway, I managed to get the necessary plug-in, and it seemed to work alright. The DVD plays fine on my computer. Unfortunately, it won't play in my DVD player, but my player just might be too old to read DVD+R. Hopefully, my friend's won't be.
Thanks for the advice.

I'm sorry, I'm going to have to report this thread to the MPAA and RIAA. Your IPs and locations will be traced federal officers will arrive shortly to throw your evil media pirating-terrorist supporting asses in Camp X-Ray.

Where we will be held for a short interim.
Like those chinese muslims were/are/will be.
Of course, my IP is FedEx nad if there's one thing the government will not do, it's piss off Big Business, so I'm pretty safe.
For the record (no pun intended): I burn CD's, games, movies and witches. ...though that last part is just a hobby.

Also for the record, the MPAA and RIAA only deal in video and sound recordings. They wouldn't care about pirated software.
Now, the MPAA could possibly care about the TV show I burned to the DVD. But, given that it was initially recorded from a television broadcast (in Britain, no less), and I'm only lending it to someone, not distributing copies, it really ought to fall under fair use, I would think. But, then, it's not like that would stop them.

But do they care about witches? Wont someone think of the childr...er....witches!?! Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on August 27, 2005 03:48 PM:
No, they don't care about witches. You're thinking of the Religious Right.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on August 27, 2005 04:17 PM:
They care? ...I guess as long as the money keeps flowing, they would at that.
Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on August 28, 2005 03:18 AM:
No, I mean, they care about witches in the same way that I care about being eaten alive by wolves.
