I've had this idea floating around the back of my head for quite some time, in one form or another. This Christmas break I finally had the tools and time to implement it. It tooks about a week, but I think I'm done. (Thanks for the help, Charles.) The site can be found here. I was hoping to get it up and running by the end of the week, but I apparently misinterpreted the status of the service.org domain name. I'll either have to buy service.org, or rename the site. Waiting to hear back from the owner.
I know there are several potential pitfalls with the concept, and few people here share my religious convictions. Still, this is overall a rather technically savvy group of people, and I'd like your feedback on the design, implementation, or whatever else comes to mind. Thanks.

Ok, I can't resist... if you need feedback on the site, shouldn't post it on your site?
Cause you know... you post your needs and people help... OK, I'm done.
I don't much care for the design, I guess. The colors seem too dark for what is supposed to be an uplifting concept.
Also, when I Search Needs and get results, there's no link that allows me to go to do anything about it. Search results should always give the ability to do more, not be a dead end. Does that make sense? So, along with the search result, there should be a link to a page about that result, or links that allow someone to "Post An Offer For This" or "Contact This Need...er"... something.
I would also highly recommend a "View All Needs" option along with the categories that displays every open need in some kind of order, probably by date posted.

There IS a link in the search results, it's the result number. It's probably far too small, though. I'll make it more obvious. I'll also experiment with the colors a bit.
View all needs is probably a good idea.
Edit: Link is now the entire text of the result. Colors are yet to be fiddled.
