UPN is going to be shut down next fall. It's about damn time. Thanks for dragging Star Trek down with you along the way, you bastards. Yeah, I know most of it had to do with the producers, but a lousy network didn't help at all. I don't think it's a coincidence that the two modern Trek shows were more successful through syndication than the ones that were stuck on UPN.
The only thing I'll (sorta) miss is making fun of the god-awful and infamous UPN promos. (The one for "Tsunkatse" is still my favorite of the worst.)

Actually, that's what the article is about. CBS and Warner Brothers are shutting down their separate networks and creating a new combined network. It's probably going to suck just as badly, but you never know for sure.

And here I was thinking: "how's he posting if his network is down?"
As for the television netorks, someone apparently forgot the stake through the heart.
quote: UPN, WB to Shut Down; New Network Formed
By SETH SUTEL, AP Business Writer 42 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Two small, struggling television networks, UPN and WB, will shut down this fall, and their parent companies plan to form a new network called The CW using programming and other assets from each of them.
Both UPN and WB had struggled to compete against larger rivals in the broadcast TV business, including Walt Disney Co.'s ABC, News Corp.'s Fox, General Electric Co.'s NBC and CBS Corp.'s CBS.
The new network will launch in the fall, the executives said, when both UPN and WB will shut down. It will be a 50-50 partnership between Warner Bros. and CBS, and the network will be carried on stations owned by the Tribune Co., a minority owner of WB.

What, so instead of struggling against each other, they're going to join forces to struggle against the big three and Fox? Like THAT's gonna work..

At least they'll be struggling together. That way they'll never be lonely again.

Too bad they didn't do this five years ago, then Angel might still be on the air.

My God what's going to happen to America's Next Top Model and Veronica Mars!!!
My favorite Star Trek promo was for Similtude which actually had me believe Trip was gone for a good and that T'pol actually birthed a child by him.

I wonder if we'll end up with the new network here. We never got WB, but we've been getting Seattle's UPN 11.

Was it? I recall the WB as being the "blackploitation" network more than UPN.

It was WB, then it became UPN, while WB programming improved.

But, please tell me the TNT Superchannel survives? My wife needs regular access to Atlanta Braves games, she's drawn to Chipper Jones.

The fact that the UK gets TNT but Canada doesn't seems odd to me.

Speaking as someone who had to get a special player just to watch the only commercially available DVDs of Blake's 7, do not mistake American programming as some gift from on-high. (incidentally B7: total thumbs up)
