I have returned. By the grace of Almighty Bog my forces stand again on Flarite soil -- soil consecrated in the blood of our two peoples. I have come, dedicated and committed, to the task of destroying every vestige of enemy control over your daily lives, and of restoring, upon a foundation of indestructible, strength, the liberties of our people.
At my side is your President, Charles Capps, worthy successor of that great patriot, Jubilee, with members of his cabinet. The seat of your government is now therefore firmly re- established on Flarite soil.
The hour of your redemption is here. Your patriots have demonstrated an unswerving and resolute devotion to the principles of freedom that challenges the best that is written on the pages of human history. I now call upon your supreme effort that the enemy may know from the temper of an aroused and outraged people within that he has a force there to contend with no less violent than is the force committed from without.
Rally to me. Let the indomitable spirit of Starships & Technology and The Flameboard lead on. As the lines of battle roll forward to bring you within the zone of operations, rise and strike. Strike at every favorable opportunity. For your homes and hearths, strike! For future generations of your sons and daughters, strike! In the name of your sacred dead, strike! Let no heart be faint. Let every arm be steeled. The guidance of divine Frank points the way. Follow in His Name to the Holy Grail of righteous victory!

Everyone else was my friend: Double Jenn, the redhead; Steve, her then-boyfriend & who is now a source of more-than-average irritation to me (another long story); Aleta, the girl with the long bushy dark hair (her boyrfriend Enzo, took the pictures as he's a photo man); & Leah, my girlfriend, the chubby girl in the make out. Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :
Unlike X-Men names in general! Which are totally sensible! Psylocke!
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
No, not a supergero name: "Stryker" was the guy's last name in the movie (his dad is the movie's main bad guy that gave Wolverine his claws/skeeleton).
Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :
Oh well that's one hundred percent different as I cannot think of any bizarre and/or implausable X-Men surnames. (Though, to be fair, all the ones that spring to mind are, like, Spider-Man characters or something.)
Posted by Peregrinus (Member # 504) on :
Osborne? Octavius? Parker? Jameson? Watson?
*heh*
Accept that to make the movies, they're going to have to mush all of the X-Men fluff together. In the comics, the Canadian government was the entity that gave Wolvie his Adamantium, and the process was created by the father of Lady Deathstryke. William Stryker was a former Army officer who became an anti-mutant born-again type after his irradiated sperm caused his son to be a mutant. He was rushing his pregnant wife to hospital, they crashed, she gave birth to "a monster". He killed it, and his wife for giving birth to such a thing, and started preaching to the masses.
Rogue was a nameless orphan taken in by Mystique down in the Louisiana bayous and trained to be a super-villain.
And they didn't even bother to at least have the five original X-Men be the team in the first one. *shrug*
I love them as movie adaptations, though.
--Jonah
P.S. THey should have gotten Iman to play Storm. And with all their other attention to detail, they should have gotten her eyes right.
Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :
Y'know, it's weird. I've always liked the X-Men, although I was far from being a devoted follower of the comcs. And I liked both films, and am looking forward to the next one (although Christ knows how I'll get to see it, having only been to the cinema once in the past year and a half and thus missed Batman Begins, V For Vendetta, God knows what else).
But I can't keep track of the characters. Especially remembering which ones have been in the films to date, and how their backstories therein compare to the original comics predeccessors. I try, but my eyes just glaze over. I need a chart. Something that tells me nickname, real name, what they look like in film and comic, backstory in film and comic. . . One day I'll put something together, or at least successfully Google something.

I STILL think Rom, Spaceknight was one of the best characters Marvel did. A shame marketing issues killed it...and virtually everything else associated with the character. Though I have heard some rumors that someone is attempting to do a movie deal.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
ROM: SPACE TOASTER
Rom was actually extremely well done for it's day: a LOT of supporting charcters died horribly at the hands of the Dire Wraiths (shape-shifting alien badies that vamp all your knowledge while siphoning out your brain via a tounge probiscus thingie).
He'd need a serious update if a movie/TV movie were to fly.
Did you draw that? Your anatomy is a bit off...
I've been re-discovering my alltime favorite sci-fi comic: Alien Legion. Man, the TPB of the second series are amazing- lots on nopn-humanoid aliens and cool spaceships like nothing seen before (or since). Jugger Grimrod is my personal role model in all things.
Posted by Peregrinus (Member # 504) on :
In my impressive but very selective comic collection I have the entire run of Rom (first series I collected seriously, starting with the first issue -- I was five at the time), including the recent Spaceknights five-issue miniseries; and the entirety of Alien Legion. And, thanks to my Peter David-Incredible Hulk run, I have the issue where Rom and Candy show up for Rick Jones' wedding.
Nim: No corsets on men when I was there. A girl draped along a motorcycle getting hot wax dribbled on her, a couple people in various degrees of gimp-suit, a variety of restraints and pain-inflicting devices, and good music and drinks... But no men in corsets.
Liam: It's okay. X-Men was where I first SAW that beard style, but I had plenty of time to research it before my own face-fur started growing in seriously enough to do anything like that..
--Jonah
P.S. Happy was I last year when Marvel did a six-issue Beta Ray Bill miniseries. I've always loved that Korbinite construct...
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Yeah, that bit where Rom and Brandy made the wedding was sweet- no explanation as to how was even attempted. I passed on the "spaceknights" limited series though- looked bad. Real bad.

Yeah, I'm the culprit on that. I was bored and trying to find some inspiration to get the artistic juices flowing and did a quick ink & colored pencil rendering. I realized the errors after I inked it but for just a 10 min. sketch it ain't THAT bad.
I am going to do some more though.
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
It's better than a lot of published "glamor shots" that used to be at the back of Marvel Fanfare.

I'm thinkig of doing a Grimrod sketch based on Sean Bean (Alien Legion creator Carl Potts says that's who he'd cast as Grimrod in a proposed AL movie, and I wholeheartedly agree).

Well... Here's an old drawing of my character for a Transformers RPG I played back in the day. And while I'm at it, here is a pic of Minerva -- who I mentioned way earlier in this thread. I also have more screengrabs from Headmasters, including a couple of neat ones with Perceptor (yes, I used "Perceptor" and "neat" in the same phrase).
And heck, since I'm thinking about it, here's a scan of the development and prototype for Megatron. Now see where the animators got their reference?
And because I'm feeling wacky, here's one of the things that makes cel animation fun.

Okay, how the fuck did that happen? I looked to double-check I wasn't quoting myself when I went in to edit a typo. Shit-monkeys. Why is there a time limit on editing/deleting?
There, see, I DO know the difference. This wasn't the sort of commentary I was hoping to spark...

No, you did. Have one, I mean. As the first ever (trial) ladyboy of the Hellfire Club. I guess it was meant kind of as a nudge-nudge joke. It's what guys do sometimes... From time to time... Dear oh dear.
Anyway, get well soon!

Oh-ho-ho... I would not have been the first ladyboy of the Hellfire Club by ANY stretch. I will spare you descriptions.

Here in SoFla, the Fetish crowd and the transgender crowd are pretty seperate.
Most of the (straight) latex set know each other already (sadly, I'm now far removed from the scene, though I still get the occasional invite).

The fetish crowd or the transgender crowd?
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Ah...I was waiting for that inevitable pun.
I was once a semi-regular at some fetish parties (as many of my friends attend them and "live the lifestyle") but now I'm a one-legged manager monkey with one day off a week and my old social life of drinking, fetih parties, clubbing and wearing too much black is dead as vaudville.
(lament!)
Today's paper had a funny transgender story of two "men" in drag that stole a new SUV while on a test drive, only to get caught (as men) soon after. Seems they thought they were convincing as women, but only to themselves.
