Yeah I know its from Ytmnd but it really happened. You'd think the rapper Timbaland would at least give credit where credit is due.

So rappers with no real musical learning sometimes searh for obscure tracks and steal them as their own brilliant work? Shocking! Shocking I tell you! Unprecedented!

Like when "The Fugees" sampled Enya's "Boadicea" for one of their 'hits' way back when and gave no credit. They got their arses SUED!
OK Finnish #1 v many many million-album selling artist with a major record company. Timbaland = arsehole, Fugees = Morons.

Oh great, now I've got another tune stuck inside my head.

I know isn't it great. Its as if a computer was singing to you. Shame on Tim for stealing it.

The first 14 seconds are my favorite, and again at 1:38, makes me feel like I'm playing Outrun or California Games again. I also remember having some great pirated Amiga-games, everyone of which had a small music video before the opening game credits, where the "artist" put in some visual FX with dancing pixels or swerving geometry and some cool tune, like a cover of "Comic Bakery" (had that tune before the game "Supremacy").

I loved Outrun. I used to play it at a pizza place and even though I sucked at it I still enjoyed cruising around that long ass road. I wonder if it was possible to reach the finish line though?

I did, once. On the sega master system, I did the arabian track (the one with the pink sky and sand), took forever but after a while you kind of got into that zen state where you just reacted subconsciously to the turns, then there was a straight run and there was the finish line. A guy in a white gown and turban came up to the car from the right and gave the dude a small wooden case. I don't know if he thought he was one of the three wise men, but there it was.
I think it's insane that this guy couldn't get a case against the thieves, even though they have good lawyers I thought it would be an open and shut case. Unless they play the scientology-angle, try to draw out the proceedings until the guy runs out of money for his lawyer.

Hmm...what a weird ending for the race.

What was in the small wooden case and did it make sense in the context of the game?

Well it seems 16 years plays some tricks with one's memories. Found a catalogue of the endings at vgmuseum.com ( http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/msx2/a/outdes.htm ) Apparently, the map was called "Desolation Hill" and not "Desert". I remember wanting to play this map, choosing "Desert" and not getting what I wanted. That one had a lot of uphill turns (which meant you didn't see the road turn until it passed under the car, instead of 20 meters ahead).
What happens in the end of "Desolation Hill" is you get a lamp from a turban-guy and after you rub it harem girls appear and cling to your arms, making your passenger girl jealous. So yes, very much in keeping with the context. :.)

The original Magical Sound Shower theme (track02.mp3) is my favorite, I already have it on midi but that site's version is longer. That's what played when I was finishing the sand track, the chorus looping continously as I did the last 5th of the race. Good times.
