THe last thing I want to do is come across like I'm hitting the folks on here up for cash, so I want to express that uncomfortableness right off.
A dear frind of mine had life go seriously sideways on her some months ago, and is squeaking through her rock-bottom right now. She refuses to let me help directly, even though she has no idea how she's going ot pull through into February. So if anyone has a few bucks and is feeling generous, or lives close to Orlando, Florida, or both, or knows someone who does... *heh* PM me and I can give details. Then y'all can decide if you want to help out or pass on it.
Thanks in advance, guys.

Or not, I suppose. Thanks for considering it, those of you who did. Off to pursue alternate avenues...

To be fair, you can't ask people to give money to someone they haven't met for some reason and then complain when no-one responds within 36 hours.

Well, I didn't want to slap the whole drama up in this thread for people who didn't give a rat's ass. I figured if anyone was of an altruistic bent (like me) they'd indeed PM me for details and make their decision then. That nobody replied -- even to the extent of all active members responding to say "no, go away"... *shrug*
And when I followed up, there was only a week left to the end of the month. She still won't let me cover her by myself, even though I can. I thought I'd try spreading it out to see if she'd accept that, but there's not really enough time any more. Which pretty much leaves her parents, from whom she's estranged right now. I'm working on resolving that. Wish me luck.

Ack, you're timing is unfortunate, Peregrinus. You posted while I was headed away from Orlando. Still, I'll PM to see if there's anything I can do.

I'm sorry to hear that your friend is having a bad time of it - and for the record, I think you're doing a good thing trying to help out.
I have to ask though - if she isn't willing to let you (a close friend) cover her for a while, is she really going to be much happier about getting help from a group of strangers from the internet?

Let's just say she's... complex. *heh* I love her dearly, though. At any rate, I think I've partially resolved this situation, and with almost a week to spare. Go, me.

Fawn, easier to not have a face associated with it, harder to have to look Pere in the eyes.
Fully resolved yet?

Well, she's still a mess, but I've established communication with her mom, and she's going to cover this. My friend has a lot of potential if she can get a handle on her own brain. Brilliant and beautiful and troubled -- seems to be way too frequent a combination.

A mess usually takes years to get control of, if ever. Congrats on re-establishing communications for her though.
