Virgin Galactic unveiled the design for SpaceShipTwo today: http://www.virgingalactic.com/pressftp/
Predictable design (knowing what SpaceShipOne looked like), but still looks very cool. And looking at that website, Virgin really knows how to put a press package together! There's an amazing amount of hi-res pictures and information there. Also, if you look at the nose of SpaceShipTwo in this picture, you can see that the first one will still be named VSS Enterprise.

I feel that this vessel, impressive as it may seem, does not bear right to be called Enterprise. Also I see they're using our logo. What's that noise Sideshow Bob makes?

Of course it bears the right to be called Enterprise. It's a step into the future. We don't own the symbolism of Star Trek. Or am I taking you too seriously?

Well maybe. I just feel Enterprise should be reserved for a ship of exploration, not a mere transport. Either that or a cool Space Battleship.

Well, it really is exploration, in a way...although it's sort of reaching ;P...exploring a brave new frontier of commercial space travel available to anyone who can afford it instead of just a select few astro/cosmonauts. Anyway, I'm pretty confident that whenever we build our first interstellar explorer or interplanetary battle cruiser, it will be named Enterprise...and I'm certain that if not the first, then *one* of them will be. I think he meant the similarity between the Flare logo and the Virgin Galactic logo.

I also meant the other stuff. Though the way you put in Daniel, I don't so bad.

Virgin Galactic rolls out mothership "Eve" Must be interesting piloting that thing, since you'd be so far off the centerline of the aircraft.

Well, if you think of it, the shuttle Enterprise never went into space, so all the "exploring" it did was really just test the spaceframe and other tech used for the other shuttles. And, it served as spare parts, I think.
With the legacy Star Trek has, and the impact it has had on people influencial to the space program, I think it's safe to say that there will be plenty more spacecraft named Enterprise.
Speaking of shuttles, and NASA in general, today is it's 50th anniversary. [ July 29, 2008, 08:24 PM: Message edited by: Sean ]
